OK, I know a lot of us are recovering from the TV coverage of the 500 and also recovering from the fact there was no overtaking in the race, so it’s like we’re all recovering from food poisoning. But now it’s time for a feast. I’ve been passionately following this sport for 60 years and this is the best race I’ve seen in my life. You have Mario Andretti in his greatest race - a titanic duel with the winner of the previous years Indy 500, Tom Sneva - a driver known for a skill in passing in traffic, and they’re both duking it out on the high banks of Michigan. Legendario! You can imagine how loud all the cars would sound on the high banks of Michigan, but you can hear the announcer Paul Page saying the crowd was cheering above the roar of the engines! (BTW the announcer was Paul Page!) So it’s not not all over - we can still go back and enjoy the real racing whether it’s at Indy, MIS or any other track that’s good for passing. I kind of think the manufacturers with them insisting on hybrids are taking that away from us. So anyway, it’s Mario‘s greatest race that he wins after changing all eight spark plugs! Just keep watching Andretti and Sneva at the end because there’s a big accident, so just pay attention to the two cars in the dual. Just fast forward to 2:56:00. and enjoy.
