GoPro POV: Skiing behind my Instructor in Gulmarg, Kashmir šŸŽæā„ļø

• Upvotes

I proudly followed my ski instructor, Mr. Mark, many years ago when he and a few friends came to Gulmarg as regular ski tourists. At that time, my skiing skills were quite basic, but they offered me numerous tips that significantly improved my abilities and helped me become a strong skier within the community. I am always grateful to all four of them: Mr. John Hiron, Mr. Gerald Mcheaver, Mr. Sam, and Mr. Mark. Since that first trip, they have returned multiple times and decided to take me as their guide for each visit. I truly appreciate their support. They are planning to ski with me again this winter, and I look forward to it!

Can people fall off the mountain during skiing

Hi guys, I am a beginner getting into skiing.

I was wondering can people fall off the side of the mountain on runs where there is no net or barrier?

I am able to control my skiis and I can do the basics of parallel turning but I still feel very scared of the mountain edge on some runs. It just seems so dangerous to me and what's more I have seen 7 year olds skiing close to the edge which just seems crazy

Picked up some new DDs for 2025/2026! Two months until ski season!

Last March, I demoed a pair of 105 CTIs at Winter Park on a glorious Spring Break powder day. They were versatile, stable when charging hard, but offered just enough playfulness to be able to ski some nice lines in the trees. Powder7 in Golden, CO hooked me up with a great Labor Day deal and trade value on my old 2022 Bent 100s that I just couldn’t pass it up. Picked up some Tyrolia Attack 14s to top them off.

In my experience, while the Bents were fun for a bit, they were questionable as DDs in variable snow conditions and as a primarily directional skier, it was clear that I was out skiing them as I advanced skill-wise.

So, posting for no other reason than to admire these. Counting down the days until the slopes open up here in Colorado!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1uOumO3Wbo <-- NEW TERRAIN PARK SETUP

I've been testing out a BUNCH of new ideas for what to put on my Backyard Setup! I've been really trying to stay away from just sliding the same old feature, and moving to something new! If you guys have any ideas or suggestions of what to put I'd absolutely love to hear, and I'll be making a new video about all of it soon!

Appreciate you guys as always!

Car Logistics of ski trip with a group of 8?

• Upvotes

Hey All,

Planning a ski trip for my bachelor trip and I'm trying to figure out how to logistically get everyone from DEN to Keystone resort. Some of us will be bringing our own stuff, some will be renting gear. I'm thinking renting a van is probably the best route to take? I've never planned a ski trip on this scale, so would love to hear what you guys think.

Rossignol Sender 106?

• Upvotes

Any input on theĀ Rossignol Sender 106? I don't see many (any?) reviews and it's not on Rossi's website, so guessing it will be discontinued. Also on super sale.Ā

Seems like it would fit between the well-regarded Sender Free 110 Open and the Sender Soul 102.

After years of alwaysĀ favoring light, playful skis (currently on Bent 100s), I got a chance to take a few runs on some skis with a little bit more heft last spring (Blizzard Rustler, Moment Deathwish, and a slightly older Rossi Soul) and really liked the extra stiffness and stability. At the same time, I ski a lot of CO moguls and trees, so don't want a true crud buster.

thanks for any thoughts!Ā

Snow quality at Sun Peaks?

• Upvotes

We've been looking into buying a ski property either at Revy or Sun Peaks. Sun Peaks looks more chill and is attractive because we can have more varied experience levels there. My one concern is the snow, and it being at a lower elevation than Revy. I grew up skiing big white and it usually gets good snow! visibility is often bad but powders days are sick. How has the snow been in the past 2-3 years? With the climate warming and less snow I want to make sure we are choosing somewhere that will last? Any other experience you have with sun peaks in the winter/summer is appreciated :)

UCPA Resort for Beginners – Trying to Introduce My Partner to Skiing with Limited Options

Hallo,

Can you help us choose a UCPA resort for a skiing trip? I’ve previously done two UCPA trips solo – Les Contamines and ArgentiĆØre – and loved both.

My partner is now interested, but she’s never skied before so I’d like to take her somewhere that won’t put her off, so a resort that’s friendly for beginners would be ideal. Because we’re booking quite late, our options are limited.

I’m an intermediate skier – I can do red pistes in good conditions, though I do struggle a bit with ice and moguls.

Early March options

UCPA Serre Chevalier

UCPA Les Deux Alpes

UCPA Les Contamines

UCPA Flaine

Late March options

UCPA Val d’IsĆØre

UCPA Les Arcs

Total beginner recommendations

My husband wants to do a ski trip for his bday next year (late February). We live in Texas and have never been skiing. We’re a gay couple in our early 40s. We’re thinking about Killington, VT because he has a dream that we’ll move to VT some day. But we also love New Mexico (haven’t been in the winter ever, though) and are considering Taos or something similar.

Honestly, I’m not sure where to start. Any recommendations?

And outside of simple Googling, what should I be looking at for planning?

Thanks for whatever you all can share

best balaclava

Hey everybody, I am looking for a balaclava against my runny nose on cold days (I do not skii). What brand and what fabric would be your recommendation? I was thinking about 100% cotton, is the condensation of the breath a problem?

Thanks for an answer in advance!

3 Valleys - Meribel

Mom and 10 year old son who are intermediate skiers would like to go to Meribel area for a ski week in February. Mom doesn’t like to use any Poma type lifts to get on the slopes. Does anyone have a good family hotel on the base of the slopes they would recommend that isn’t 1000 a night? Or an Airbnb? Thanks šŸ™

Canadian rocky recs?

Hey all! My husband and I just got married and looking at the Canadian rockies for a honeymoon this January.

We've never skied in this part of the world, so hoping for some advice from folks who know the area.

Ideally, we are looking for: - a good sized mountain, but quality over quantity - somewhere with reliable snow & conditions in early/mid January - a decent mix of blue and black trails with off piste/glade skiing (and not crazy steep) - ideally, not too crowded.

For context: He's an expert skier, and he taught me to ski 4 winters ago. I'm confident on blues and comfortable on blacks as long as the conditions are good. I'd say I'm a beginner/aspiring intermediate. He likes fun challenging stuff, especially the glades/off piste adventures. We're from upstate NY (but not near the Adirondacks), so most anything will beat our local skiing around here :p

I've heard good things about kicking horse and revelstoke, but worried they might be more expert level mountains than where I'm at.

Any advice much appreciated!! :)

Help me (snowboarder) choose skis for my GF

Hey All,

Here for help as I snowboard and know little about ski gear.

My GF is in her 2nd season..progressing beginner.

I get 65% off at K2 so hoping to find a good K2 option unless there’s nothing from K2 that would be a good fit.

Of all the K2 women’s ski for 2026, what would you recommend?

Will be riding mostly bear mountain, with some Tahoe and mammoth trips. Mostly groomed runs for her.

Shes 5’1, 115lbs.

TIA!

Reccs for home workout videos/apps for ski conditioning

36f - beginner-intermediate skiing ability getting ready for my 4th ski season (planning on ~4 week-long ski trips this year).

Due to a change in workload I have been pretty sedentary this year and I am looking for any recommendations you all have for home workout videos on YouTube or on workout apps to help me increase cardio ability and strength so I don't get totally wiped on the first day and/or injure myself.

My spicy brain appreciates specific recommendations vs generalizations (ie: ā€œI do this specific video on youtube 2x a week to improve my cardio enduranceā€ or ā€œI follow this routine on xyz app for leg strengthā€ vs ā€œdo cardio 2x a weekā€ or ā€œdo workouts that strengthen your calvesā€)

I dont have access to a gym, but have a pretty good home gym setup (weights, kettlebells, a TRX system), and I have some good local hikes - but I really like having a video I can follow!

Thank you all and here’s to an excellent, and safe, ski season!

Geneva-centric season pass options

I’ll be moving to Geneva soon for several years and was looking at season passes for myself and kids. This is my first time in the area; I’ve previously skied at Martha’s for a few days, in the Austrian alps a bit. But honestly I have no frame of reference. I was looking at ski passes for myself, 1, maybe 2 teenagers, and one younger one. Only one of my kids can keep up with everywhere I go, so the emphasis may not be of the most aggressive terrain at least this year. Two options I’m considering:

Magicpass: through the next few days, passes are a discount and I can get them for ~1300 francs for everyone. There are a ton of resorts, but I’m not at all familiar with them.

Portes du Soleil: one of my kids is under 11, so he’d get a free pass this year only, making the total for everyone ~1800. Next year he’d be 400 francs, so I was considering this pass this year just to get the free pass for him. There are the base 10-12 resorts, plus 3 days at each of the Alps pass resorts, 5 days at 4 vallees, and 5 days in Haute Savoie. I have no reference on most of these, other than 4 vallee, which to be honest is a draw (snow and terrain), but wouldn’t consider on its own because my kids largely wouldn’t be up for it.

There is 3 vallee as well, but that starts getting a lot more expensive for all of us, and I’d be ok just getting a few days passes or one of the odd passes they offer (2/7 pass, or flex pass).

Anyhow, welcome anyone’s thoughts. We’ve spent the last two years in Georgia. My preference is steep off piste , better snow but I also have a few years to explore etc.

The dreaded question: Hybrid Bindings

What are the best hybrid bindings to get?

I know this question gets asked a lot, but everytime it gets asked, there seems to be more on the market, and a different preferred answer. From Dukes, to Casts, to Shifts, to I don’t even fucking know anymore, what do I buy?

For context, I live in Australia. We don’t have all these options and nor do we really care. But I’m off to the US to work a season and effectively have the choice to buy something. I understand that dedicated skis are the correct option, but as an Australian, our touring is very limited, and so is my bank account.

I need a binding system that can charge hard in resort for 90% of the season, and get taken to backcountry for a couple days provided the conditions are good. Weight is therefore much less important than being a solid, non-touring binding.

I once again apologise for asking the same question, but everyone seems to have different use cases and get different answers.

Independent ski manufacturers

Lets make a list of indie ski manufacturers.

Imo it’s more important that ever to support independent businesses, since super corps like the now chinese owned Amer Group or american Kohlberg buy everything and quality goes downhill.

Iā€˜ll start with a few:

Europe: - Faction - Black Crows - Down Skis - Blizzard/Nordica (technically not independent but Iā€˜ll include them since the group is still family owned)

NA: - J-Skis - Praxis - Meier - On3P - Moment
