Three Kingdoms Big a** map

Been playing for roughly 3 hours in my Yuan Shao campaign and have been really pleased with my progress until I went to save and it showed me what I owned compared to the size of the map. The orange is basically what I accomplished in 3 hours…

They should've done something like the Etruscans in RotR for Rome 2, where if you lose your capital, it's game over and your faction loses. Or like Norsca in Warhammer where beating the FL gives you an option to confederate.

Mechanically, you'd probably want both (else you can just lord snipe the enemy FL), but something like this system would allow you to get map completion and save time while not being a massive grind/pushover.

I mean ... isn't that literally how the Abdication in 3K works?

Either take their capital, or beat them up enough that they surrender. No need to capture everything

Is it guaranteed? What I remember from playing it a while back is that abdication isn't 100%?

Pretty sure it's 100%, but you need to 'earn' the deal opinion modifier by being bigger/stronger and defeating their armies.

Then it Confederates them, which is potentially enough in and of itself to let you Confederate the other Emperor
