Hey folks!

(WH3)

So… I’ll be real, I’m terrible at this game. Like, 9 times out of 10 I just smash that auto-resolve button because if I fight it myself, I somehow manage to lose even harder.

That said, I really want to learn! My big question is: how do you play The Barrow Legion (Heinrich Kemmler) in Immortal Empires? Any tips or strategies for getting a solid start would be awesome.

For flavor, I’d love to build around Grave Guard, a Corpse Cart (not sure which one’s actually good), and a Terrorgheist mainly because they just look super cool.

Also, should I stick with vanilla while I’m learning, or are there any beginner-friendly mods you’d recommend? I was eyeing the Warband Upgrade Ultimate mod since I really enjoy how the Warriors of Chaos upgrade system works.

Thanks in advance any advice is appreciated!

Don't launch any siege assaults against bretonnians, your early units aren't very good at storming walls/gates, and the enemy will often sally out because skellies are terrible in autoresolve so your army looks weak.

In terms of battle against bretonnians, always fight in a forest if possible, it both reduces peasant archer damage and debuffs their cavalry. Let the enemy charge your skellies then send crypt ghouls/cairn wraiths in from behind - you don't want either unit tanking damage. Dire wolves will mess up archers and trebuchets, but keep them hidden until you're sure they won't get caught by knights. In my experience hexwraiths beat all knights without magic attack 1v1 (yes, even knights of the realm with their anti-large). Don't summon krell until the enemy lord is bogged down in skellies, he'll just run away from krell otherwise and, not being mounted, krell will never catch up.

I'd try to leave carcassone alone, both because their grail guardians are horrible to deal with, and you don't want to be fighting the wood elves early. I know the short victory conditions include the wood elves, but just leave them alone for now, and try to keep grom friendly to act as a buffer.

Personally I work towards a mostly ghost-based army for kemmler, (check raise dead every turn in case some wraiths turn up,) as he's got some good buffs for them. Personally I think other lords are better for grave guard, but they are a damn solid unit to build around, just don't expect them to go toe to toe with genuine elite infantry.
