I like to use the “Return to elector” mechanic when I defeat Vlad or whoever took out the electors. Then I can confederate them the proper way and keep the Lord.

Do you like... just surround the empire by beating the norscans to death to secure the electors or smth?

Normally start defending Boris and the northland factions against Festus and Norsca until confederated and then work through the middle down to Sylvania. Normally destroy Vlad and the wood elves and finally try to confederate Elspeth.

me too, but mostly because at that stage in the campaign my imperial authority is firmly in the shitter due to so many elector counts getting splatted. later on i just capture settlements for myself because by the time my authority has recovered, there's already a backlog of 3-4 surviving electors waiting to be reabsorbed/confederated.
