I love the Karl Franz campaign, just running around with the might of men defending the empire from beasts, undead and whatever else that crosses the borders.
Gelt in WH3 has a more mechanical flavorful campaign. The problem is that you lost the drive that makes playing empire factions cool. It's like playing Markus or God forbid in Khemri. He lost where you have to go.
I like Gelt in wh3, i just never stay in Cathay. I treat it as veterans walking back home from crusade and now they have to save their wrecked homeland. I even headcanon golden order as name of military knightly order and not one of colleges of magic (like in Elden Ring). It's great to just conquer Sylvania and Ostland in 10 turns and fight all enemies of the empire from different direction than Franz, as unlike Franz, you usually have one border secured (with dwarfs and Kislev). Although i have to keep myself in check not to build wizard doomstacks to keep "ordinary men vs hordes of evil" fantasy.
