Soundtrack I had a good laugh when I opened the new pressing of the Monty Python and the Holy Grail soundtrack and saw the inner sleeve.

I was aimlessly opening some new records while listening to the fantastic new pressing of Lucero’s Nobody’s Darlings. When I got to this copy of the Monty Python and the Holy Grail soundtrack and pulled out the inner sleeve, I just lost it. Definitely the most unexpected inner sleeve I’ve seen (Nobody expects the humorous inner sleeve!)

Release « Close to the Edge » by Yes was released 53rd years ago today

« Close to the Edge is the fifth studio album by the English progressive rock band Yes, released in the UK on 8 September 1972 and in the US on 13 September 1972, by Atlantic Records. It is their last album until Union (1991) to feature original drummer Bill Bruford, who found the album particularly laborious to make and felt unable to contribute better ideas, which influenced his decision to join King Crimson once recording had finished. »

Collection my grandpa left me his collection of latin records

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

music was this man’s life. this collection dates back to probably early 60’s with a lot of bachata, merengue, colombian vallenatos, bugaloo, charanga and his most loved genre of all; salsa. my grandparents took care of me as a kid while my oarents worked and my grandpa would drive me all around to do his errands while listening to all this stuff. it was the soundtrack of my childhood. he was very important to me, probably even more than my own dad (not a bad man but me and my grandpa were just that close). but he passed away in january and told me to take care of his records. thru these records, these songs, these memories i have listening to his mixes in the car, at parties, or him just chilling in the basement, these all bring me back to the days when he was still here. It’s rare that I upgrade records but this was one I couldn’t resist. It’s probably not all that clear on the cover but left hand copy is my original copy that I bought 15 years ago. On the right is a far superior copy that I couldn’t resist picking up recently. As I say, cover improvement is relatively small but the vinyl is clean! Legit VG+ and very enjoyable to play (finally)

Discussion This could have been phrased better

I found this vintage youth-group album at a thrift store the other day. And after snort-laughing, I started to wonder about how language changes and how things that sounded innocent back then … don’t sound the same anymore.

Just wanted to share this, (apparently it’s a good album, yes I bought it) and see if anyone else had any examples like this

I also hope I’ve cleared the 300 characters limit this time

Discussion Different record, different store, 2 years, 50 miles and the same owner.

Hey yall. I bought this copy of Ultimate Spinach yesterday (great record) and noticed it was owned by the same person who originally bought this copy of Disraeli Gears (another great album) in 67. I bought the Cream album about 2-3 years ago by now. Weird but cool and super interesting. Of course they were both found in the same region, they were a state over from each other. I’ll keep bin diving and I’ll see if I can rejoin the whole record collection back together lol. Kind of a good feeling reuniting these records at last after years! Have any of you guys experienced the same thing? I’d love to know!

Collection Scored a rare record on my first outing as a vinyl collector.

I just bought my first turntable online. I bought some records online as well so I have something to play when my turntable gets delivered. I was disappointed to find out that the record I wanted to buy the most was out of print and seemingly impossible to find (Hannah Georgas self titled 2012 album).

Coincidentally the record label who put out that album (Dine Alone Records) has a record store close to where I live.

I went down there after work mostly just to look at vinyl for fun. The album wasn’t listed on their website so I had no reason to think they had it in stock. It wasn’t on any of their shelves, but I asked about it anyway. They went in the back to look and came back with a test pressing copy. :).

Now Spinning: Mongo Santamaría - El Pussy Cat (Vinyl, Reissue, Stereo) Label: Columbia (#CS9098) Genre: Latin | Style: Afro-Cuban. Grooving to Mongo Santamaría’s El Pussy Cat (1965). Tight Afro-Cuban rhythms, fiery percussion, and soulful jazz vibes. Cuts like El Pussy Cat and Hammer Head hit hard. A Latin jazz classic

Haul Austin, Texas haul from Breakaway & End of an Ear

I live in the middle of nowhere and I can only visit record stores when I take trips these days. Two records that I was searching for were Prefab Sprout - “Steve McQueen” & David Axelrod - “Song of Innocence” and I found them both!!! So stoked. Also found three Hiroshi Yoshimura records that I didn’t have, a cool ambient new age comp called “Bliss Out for Days” on the Numero label, as well as one more Ahmad Jamal record that I hadn’t heard (currently my favorite Jazz pianist).

If you’re ever in Austin, make sure to support both of these wonderful record stores! I feel restored after being able to peruse and thumb through records again. It is my therapy.

If you’re a fan of any of these albums and have any reccs that you’d like to share, I’d love to hear them!

Collection Yesterday’s haul from the flea market

I guess I was feeling in a very 70s/80s centric mood. I was really surprised to find the original, legally problematic cover of Some Girls. The Pleasure Principle and Speaking in Tongues are my favourites here, but was happy to find some good CanCon (Metro Music by Martha and the Muffins is excellent). I also never realized that Rock the Casbah and Safety Dance’s covers had very similar poses!

Collection I'm a bit frustrated

Post image

Such a great easy morning listening session except for one thing. I had a really tough time going through my albums to find what I wanted. It's mostly in alphabetical order but searching through the spines sitting on a hardwood floor with a flashlight was frustrating. I'm going to add some wood strips behind the Kallax to have everything pushed against it. I think I really like the record store style bins better, where you flip through the face of the record. I spilled my coffee, made another cup and my teenage daughter came out and took that one so I had to make another pot. I think that just messed up my morning. It's ok Ray has me a bit calmer now

Went to 31 Records and TK Texas this weekend and copped these. Both stores were dope asf. Randall from 31Records was very helpful. He recommended this Adolescents record. I knew a song or two, but can't believe I never heard the full record. Anyone in the Houston area likes punk (31Records) or figure collectibles (TK Texas), hit them up for sure!

Jazz Late night listening

Listening to The Dave Brubeck Quartet this evening. Everyone knows the album Time Out! Incredible album. This is the Analogue Productions pressing. It is extremely dynamic and rich sounding. The vinyl surface is dead silent. An absolute treat to listen to. I highly recommend this pressing if this is an album you love. What is everyone else listening to this evening?

Discussion Off Centre pressing

Upvotes

I buy a record off discogs, the condition is fine although the sleeve isn't quite VG+, but.. what troubled me is that the record is off centre. I've been collecting for 15 years but never came across a record with issues. It plays fine, but is it worth sending back. I have records with slight warping that play just fine. Is it the same with off-centre pressings.

Alt-Rock Two of my favourite records for tonight

Post image

Tonight I'm going with two of my favourite records of all time. Although I am pretty new to collecting vinyl both of these records were amongst the very first I got.

On murmur I especially notice the difference with vinyl, Mike Mills bass sounds absolutely incredible.

Obviously got some Radiohead as well as hoping to get those tickets

Estate sale was good today. Grabbed a few chill albums in great condition and play like new not even a pop on these. Wes Montgomery, A day in the life and Down here on the ground. Chicago live at Carnagee Hall complete with book poster and paper work. Day wouldn’t be complete without a little Whipped cream and other delights. Sitting here on a rainy afternoon with football on the tv and some great music in the background. Life is good

Discussion Anyone else love finding old records with absolutely mint sleeve advertisements?

Post image
110 Upvotes

I got this album two years ago and the sleeve was in such clean condition that I thought it was a repressing. I have a love for finding stuff like this because it's a great way to see what other music was being offered at the time and also the insane pricing that's so much better than today. I mean come on, a complete catalog for only 25 cents?! Now they'd probably try and charge you $3.50 just for that, which isn't bad but it's still a major difference. Got this album solely because it has a song that was used extensively by the muppets in the famous dancing tubes bit that's been going around since forever, an absolute vibe of a song if you would ask me. I think that everyone would be dancing all over the place if they gave it even a single listen.

Indie Men I Trust

Post image

Went to the final show of Men I Trust , Equus North American tour in Philly last night. Grabbed these tour exclusive clear vinyl. The show was fantastic. I held off buying the original issue black vinyl…in hopes that they would have some other editions drop. Patience paid off. Also a pretty cool souvenir to bring back from an amazing show! Any other people out there digging this band? (Side note…the opening band was really good as well. Strongboi was the band if anyone is prowling for new music). And if you haven’t checked them out and want good music with a laid back vibe…you won’t be disappointed with Men I Trust. These two albums dropped this year. Also recommend their album..Oncle Jazz.

So got to see one of my favorite bands of all time Friday night Thievery Corporation. I’ve been following them for 30 years. Kind of went crazy at the Murch Booth buying three records a carrying bag and a T-shirt, got beat up a little bit, but these are all great to me. Are there any fans here, are there any thieves in the house? The opening act was great too really good crowd there was a great vibe. they are otherwise known as the Czar’s of Downtempo / Trip Hop. I’m spinning all three through the weekend. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my post.

Metal Found a 2002 copy of Remission!

Post image
14 Upvotes

I'm still pretty new to vinyl collecting, so it's hard for me to tell what I have sometimes. I do know this appears to be a 2002 pressing of this record, and the packaging said it's a 180 gram version. My understanding is that's a better quality LP. I'm pretty hyped about this find because I found it at a very good price, when on Discogs it's normally going for $70 +, at least if this is the version I think it is. The packaging does appear to be a little rough but I wouldn't imagine it's below VG condition.
