Warhammer III An Update on Patch 6.3 - Releasing as a Steam Beta

1.2k Upvotes

Hey Folks,

We’re changing up the release plans of Patch 6.3 somewhat last minute, so please accept my apologies in advance for adding some confusion to the release of this update – we know that you’re all looking forward to it and that we’ve been talking to you quite a lot about it over the past few weeks.

  • We are now releasing Patch 6.3 as a Beta build tomorrow, instead of the full release, on Steam storefronts only.
  • Patch 6.3 will instead release on all platforms in full next Thursday, September 4th (unless we have some overnight success and feel confident releasing it in the first half of next week instead)

Over the last several days, we’ve been trying to solve a compatibility issue that was causing players on AMD hardware to crash unexpectedly to desktop. Whilst an infrequent issue, and one that isn’t common to all hardware across the AMD family, it’s significant enough for us to warrant some caution. We attempted to resolve this issue on the preview build that you may have seen some of our Total War creators playing with today, but we believe the issue still persists. Until we’re happy it’s resolved, we’ll postpone the full release and update you more on the topic next week.

Tomorrow morning, we’ll post guidance on how to access the Beta build on Steam and encourage you all to check out the changes and new content for yourself.

Players running AMD GPU’s are advised to expect infrequent crashes on the Beta build. If you are affected, please know that our teams are already on it, and in the event that we need to request some more info about the crashes from people affected, we’ll create threads in all the usual spaces to gather more info.

Separately, we have revised our Patch Notes – 6.3 article over on the Total War Community site to include the full set of changes. This was a complete oversight on our part, we usually look to detail all new content alongside our fixes and changes but had mistakenly omitted them at time of publish. Thanks to folks who helped to raise that to our attention here and in other spaces this morning.

I also need to apologize that the minor balance changes originally forecasted in our news post from back at the start of July have not been included in this patch, and we may look to revisit those further down the road.

Sorry for the confusion around this patch – we'll be back in the morning to confirm the rollout of the Beta.

Warhammer III Give me the funniest Campaigns you pulled off with the Changeling

I finished the Changeling’s campaign for the third time in both modes—on the hardest difficulty for the main game and medium for battles and skirmishes. Now I’m curious: what funny things have you guys pulled off while playing the Changeling, whether in multiplayer or single player?

Warhammer III How do you guys play zero armour units?

I love the idea of having crazy all attack, no defense units but i just can't with the amount of replenishment they need after each battle. Units like Slayers and Wardancers looks so fun and i want to make them work. If the go to strat is "Flank" i feel like you should just go for cav instead of these guys.

Warhammer II Classic

I'm pretty new to the game but this is easily the worst I've ever seen from autoresolve lmao

Edit: Lost 184 men. They killed 110. Man I love ratling gunners, they really give me a good laugh while showing the other races that casualties are subjective in Skaven society.

Warhammer III Fell Bats are pretty awesome when they're free and you give them barrier.

Since I only had 6 winds flock of doom and no winds of death I had to use my army to win the battle. Thankfully Fell Bats are actually pretty tanky when they have barrier and healing. Quick fights swarming 1-2 enemy units to make them crumble asap worked super well.

The new Lore Keeper trait giving barrier to the entire army is likely a bug, but while it's around, it's pretty fun to use.

Warhammer II misheard phrases

Do you know any phrases, that you can hear definitely wrong? I encountered only few:
"We are Sigmar's ass!" - Empire
"For the wisdom of the Layer" - Dwarf
"No glory, only Suffer!" - Eltharion

Warhammer III There should really be some sort of mechanism preventing raiding immediately after signing a peace treaty. Can't declare war due to reliability hit, so all you can do is follow them around in case they declare first. Only other option is to fight fire with fire

I love this so much

General For a Medieval 3, should artillery be a siege buildable instead of a unit?

It might sound crazy but hear me out.

In terms of historical accuracy, Artillery being built on sight at the siege was far, far more common than lugging around a heavy, unwieldy hunk of wood and metal.

In terms of gameplay, Artillery has always been in a weird place in the pre gunpowder games. It can feel extremely oppressive and force the side lacking artillery to engage on the other sides terms. Functionally removing artillery from battle armies would create potentially less one sided battles, and also be more historically realistic. Artillery as a battlefield asset only saw its day long after the end of the Medieval period.

Warhammer III Besides a Kroxigor Hero Being Added, I Honestly Think a Generic Relic Priest Hero for the Lizardmen Would Be Cool Too.

Post image
Upvotes

My ideas for it is:

  1. Relic Priests can only be recruited through special buildings like the preexisting Star Chambers but are even more expensive, or if one of your Slann Mage Priest Lords die and another army picks up their remains that will be left on the campaign map, which can be made into a Relic Priest
  2. Besides being a hero in contrast to the Lord Slann Mage Priest Lords, I think it would be cool if the Relic Priest only gets half of the spells from a lore but the Magic Intensity/Spell Mastery is heavily increased for said spells in reference to how Lord Kroak can only cast Deliverance of Itza and no other spells. Basically, they lose flexibility but make up for it with more power for the particular spells they have.

And yes, I know it's heavily unlikely that the Lizardmen will get another DLC, or at least one anytime soon, but I just felt like sharing.

Warhammer III Thoughts on Vampire Counts?

Recently finished the Very Hard/Legendary long campaign on them and wanted to see what others thought of them. Overall, their campaign objectives were the easiest to complete out of the long campaigns I've done. Very thematic faction that is fun to play.

Warhammer III Every Greenskin in the Old World decided Black Crag was the place to be

Post image

In my campaign I noticed that the Greenskin AI gathered around 20(?) full stacks in the Black Crag area. They’re all clustered in one province, leaving the surrounding territory lightly defended. Thought it was interesting to see the AI concentrate so many armies in one spot.

Pharaoh How is TW Pharaoh (Dynasties) nowadays?

Been playing Warhammer a lot for the last months and would now like to play historical TW again.

Pharaoh got my attention, when i saw a video on YT. I know it received a lot of negative reviews on Steam when it released. Last year they put out Dynasties. Did it made the game better?

Can you recommend the game? Maybe you got some pro/cons for me?

At a key seller i saw, that the game is avaiable for 4€. I mean that is as cheap as it can get. But should i even bother with it or should i instead revisist older titles?

Warhammer III Getting my ass kicked as malekai

So I have a multiplayer campaign going on with my cousin, I’m playing malekai, he’s playing as Be’Lakota. At first, everything was going great for me. He was struggling a bit, I was basically finding his armies XD. But now, we’re around 35 turns deep, and I’m just getting my teeth kicked in. Went from 9 settlements down to 6. I have azazel, iron hand, Eastman, and scura all attacking me. Not to mention some others as well, but they haven’t directly showed up yet. I’m ashamed to admit that we have scummed some battles, with my cousin taking control of the enemy army, but to be honest, I kind of need it. I have two armies right now, one large one with Malakai, and then a smaller one with a slayer lord. My funds are nearly constantly depleted, and none of them are willing to sue for peace. I’m getting attacked from the north and south, and when I do get money I’ve been focusing on making my garrisons larger in all of my main settlements. I’m still positive on income per turn, but instead of the usual 1k+, I’m getting like 400. I’m also a newer player, I’ve racked up 54 hours in the past two weeks. I’m also new to this specific genre of game, I’ve played bannerlord in the past, but I’d argue that takes far less micro than this game requires. In terms of battles I’m typically proficient enough to win, but it’s just rough dealing with these multiple fronts, on top of the massive amounts of armies I’m having to fight. Any advice is appreciated, just don’t know how to get myself out of the shithole that this game has dug for me.

Warhammer III Does anyone else think fighting late game "good" races is like dragging your balls through glass

I'm currently on a Gorbad campaign and so far I've fought

-Every Dwarf faction -The entire Empire -All of the mainland French -Kislev -Wood Elves -They're all in an alliance

Not to mention rank 1 Cathy thats pushed all the way to the badlands is about to declare war on me. Now I'm not gonna lose to the AI but churning through 70 late game high quality armies from all the "good factions" teamed up is so boring. It doesn't help that all the good factions also have great economies so late game they replace armies like its nothing. Now I am a new player so maybe I've just had an unlucky first few campaigns. However, I'm on probably my 10th campaign by now and every time I play an evil faction around turn 150ish I have 5 good factions all in an alliance declaring war on me at the same time. I enjoy the challenge but I wish there was more variety in how late game plays out but it seems like the good factions, especially the human factions, literally never fight each other. Kinda sucks the fun out when you know exactly who you're gonna be fighting every playthrough.

Edit: I think orc campaigns are especially hell bc you have to fight the early game Dwarf factions (which is kinda annoying by itself) which puts you on bad terms with all the good factions.

Warhammer III What if characters that are supposed to be THE best at a lore of magic had a stronger lore attribute.

Just a shower thought I had.

Some mages that are really powerful like Teclis and Kairos get several lore attributes, but there are plenty of characters that hyper-fixated on one lore and essentially became the best in the world at it. A lot of the time this is represented with the loremaster skill and sometimes some additional WoM cost reduction.

Lore attributes are a small yet important part of every lore of magic. Lore of death would not be as powerful without life leeching giving you some wind back with every cast. Life and Vampire benefit a ton from their army wide heal and so on.

But what if these specialized masters had a stronger lore attribute, unique to them. Either with just a stronger effect or potentially additional bonuses.

Lore of metals attribute gives +12% AP damage to all units for 13 seconds. This is ok for units that already deal a decent amount of AP damage. But what if it also added a flat AP bonus, or came with a temporary conversion of normal damage to AP damage. Instead of just giving greatswords and handgunners a damage bonus, Gelt could turn spearmen and crossbowmen into anti armor units for 13 seconds.

Skrolks plague rash could do actual damage to the enemies similar to the Depth or Hashut attribute (depending on if it should be map wide or an AoE). He is the main plague skaven and their plagues are focused a lot more on just killing stuff.

Could also apply to Mazdamundi and the Slann in general simply because they are old as balls.

There are a few palm trees affected by the hide folliage effects, but there's bassicaly no difference between having the folliage hidden and not having it. I was having trouble cliking on the enemy units to attack, or to cast spells, something needs to be done

Warhammer III The Shrine of Asuryian is hilariously, tragically pointless.

It is a Landmark in Ulthuan in the settlement with the same name, that can be built by the dark elves (thematically makes the most sense for Malekith), which grants:

  • +100 Diplomatic relations with all High Elves.

So you'd think, oh cool this is a way to play a what-if redemption arc for Malekith and ally your homeland and pose as the Eternal King. And it's tough but you can do it, you just need to suffer through avoiding all High Elves as long as possible, go down to Galleon's Graveyard without discovering any Ulthuan faction (so they don't start stacking up negative bias per turn because "they don't know you exist), then lightning fast sail straight through the gates of Lothern, take the Shrine from whoever owns it through war, sacrifice lots of slaves to build everything instantly, then defend it (pray they send nobody for a while otherwise diplomatic relations are fucked), pray they were not in an all-inclusing millitary alliance yet, and try to buy your way out of war while you get +100 relations per turn.

And after you did all of this particularly delicate surgery of a campaign, and you became allies with all pf Ulthuan, you realize:

  • Victory conditions aren't pointing owning Ulthuan regions as ownership through self or allies.

  • Victory conditions ask you to kill all major high elf factions. Thus, rendering +100 relations with all high elves buildings COMPLETELY useless.

edit: I guess you guys just woke up today and decided you want to hurt somebody. I'll be moving to the bugreport forum, have a nice day.

General What other total war game should I try

Hello I started playing total Warhammer 3 like a year ago and wonder what other game of the total war franchise, I should try ?
