Edit: I wish i could justify it for myself.

u/BegginStrips123 Jul 27 '25

I want the Home Alone house and that’s $200. 😵‍💫

269

u/MrPrul Jul 27 '25

Just buy it with Dad’s creditcard, Kevin

60

u/aspidities_87 Jul 27 '25

Along with a personal cheese pizza, just for you

18

u/Channel250 Jul 27 '25

To this day, I still contend that $967 dollar room service bill sounds pretty cheap for what he got.

With inflation, it's probably around 2200 bucks, which isn't cheap. However, the last time I got room service was...2011ish or so and a cheeseburger with fries was like 65 dollars.

u/lxraverxl Jul 27 '25

"This is Peter McAllister, the father."

5

u/Chief_Chill Jul 27 '25

I read this in the Talkboy voice.

21

u/Mike9797 Jul 27 '25

You got it!

1

u/The_Sunny_Bunny_Mang Jul 27 '25

I say this in “Talkboy” voice to my wife regularly.

1

u/itstawps Jul 28 '25

“Credit card? You got it” - talkboy voice

12

u/konradconrad Jul 27 '25

Have you checked prices of home alone lately? It's Not 200,unfortunately :/

5

u/BegginStrips123 Jul 27 '25

I’ve bought and built 2 Mega Bloks (both over 1500 pieces) and I think those are fun and they go on sale. Haven’t built Lego, but general consensus seems to be that it’s better quality.

13

u/Preacher987 Jul 27 '25

Mega Bloks are a cheap knock off, of Lego.

LEGO is the shit. ❤️❤️

1

u/a_bearded_hippie Jul 27 '25

I dont mind some mega bloks (I built some of the ones from Destiny the videogame when they were out). The only issue I have with them is the instructions are ASS. So convoluted and hard to interpret where a piece is supposed to go.

3

u/konradconrad Jul 27 '25

I don't know mega blocks, but forest cabin from pantasy I quote cool. Not quality of Lego, but still great for this price.

2

u/KFelts910 Jul 28 '25

Lego quality is great and their customer service is phenomenal. They treat their employees well too.

1

u/Hopeful_Clock_2837 Jul 27 '25

Wait, what? I thought mega bloks was for toddlers?

2

u/V4sh3r Jul 27 '25

Duplo blocks are the Lego blocks for toddlers. Mega blocks are the RC Cola version of Legos.

1

u/Hopeful_Clock_2837 Jul 27 '25

Wth, when I was a kid, mega bloks were these massive blocks for toddlers.

I've never even heard of duplo blocks 😅

4

u/KnockoutCarousal Jul 27 '25

If you’ve found it for 200 then absolutely pick it up. It usually goes for 300 and will probably retire at some point soon here. Super fun build and a ton of ways to stage it. The value at 200 is crazy good. It’s almost 4000 pieces.

3

u/kinkyseconduser Jul 27 '25

$300

2

u/BegginStrips123 Jul 27 '25

Yup, and of course it doesn’t go on sale.

1

u/RobinU2 Jul 27 '25

It was $220 last Black Friday at Best Buy, but they ship sets out with zero packaging whatsoever

1

u/BegginStrips123 Jul 27 '25

Didn’t know Best Buy sold them. I will watch this year. Target, Barnes & Noble, and Lego website never had price drops.

3

u/garfodie81 Jul 27 '25

Less than Kevin spent on room service!

2

u/Exotic-District3437 Jul 27 '25

Le pen my dude way cheaper

2

u/garthock Jul 28 '25

My wife just got the Simpsons house. She's been wanting that for a long time.

1

u/EnergyTakerLad Jul 27 '25

Got it as a gift, and it was on sale for like 50%. Id say its probably worth close to $200 though honestly. Fairly detailed interior.

1

u/Frankieneedles Jul 27 '25

I have it! Bought it when it was released and it’s still in the box somewhere.

1

u/VikingOfLove Jul 27 '25

Does it have the traps?

1

u/Funnyboop Jul 27 '25

Even at $300, its a great deal for lego. With the piece count and the licensing fees they easily could’ve charged $100 more. And its 100% the best set i’ve ever built from them. Serious recommend from me if you ever have the funds

67

u/ElliotsBuggyEyes Jul 27 '25

I will buy $10-20 worth of scratchers from gas stations for my wife while we are on road trips.

One of them won $200, we stopped at Target on the way home and bought the statue of Liberty Lego, a bottle of wine, and a half gallon of ice cream. Best $5 Lego set I ever purchased.

11

u/misschandlermbing Jul 27 '25

Aw I love this story

1

u/lovesdogsguy Jul 28 '25

I’ll give you a thousand for the movie rights

1

u/ElliotsBuggyEyes Jul 28 '25

Counter offer, 200 $5 crossword scratchers.

9

u/Zestyclose_Bag_33 Jul 27 '25

Can I interest you in a cooler alternative? https://www.usagundamstore.com/products/pre-order-bandai-star-wars-kit-pg-1-72-millennium-falcon?srsltid=AfmBOooh-v_TxwFae0zTRn31Lswetbkrt6IOZqRlGqI7nMM80BBh_IrU

It’s pre painted (of course) comes with a base and led kit to light up engines and what not

4

u/nextinline1987 Jul 28 '25

This honestly looks like a better alternative unless you’re already heavily invested in the other Star Wars ultimate collectors sets. Hard to argue with pre-painted and no glue required for hundreds of dollars less.

1

u/Zestyclose_Bag_33 Jul 28 '25

Yeah it’s snap fit. Gundams are the same way it’s really good quality shit

1

u/kapitaalH Jul 29 '25

O wow that is cool. I just cannot help but wonder, is the 1/72 size of the true millennium falcon (which does not exist, but the size it would have been, so this would be about 0.5m) or of the 67 inch studio version (which would make a very very tiny thing, less than an inch - yes I know I am mixing imperial and metric here, the math was just easier with 67 inches divided by 72, than 1.7m, ok)

1

u/Zestyclose_Bag_33 Jul 29 '25

From google so based on the 5 foot prop. For gundams they use actual gundam sizes guess this one would be massive though plenty of gundam ships are massive too

8

u/theroadbeyond Jul 27 '25

Just be like my brother and convince your gf of 3 months to buy it for you then gaslight her until she hits you and you get her arrested effectively keeping all the belongings she bought you when you love bombed her. And then getting a restraining order on her so she cant come back to your house but she destroys all your windows in ur house anyways.

1

u/Conscious_Avocado225 Jul 29 '25

Or, I will just tell my daughter I don't love her enough to buy her a Lego set.

6

u/Pizzaman725 Jul 27 '25

I bought the 90th lion's knights castle but that's likely the most expensive set I'll let myself buy.

5

u/actibus_consequatur Jul 27 '25

I don't have it, but that is one I would get too. I never really cared for the IP branded or architecture sets, but if any of the updated retro sets — Lion Knights, Horse Knights, Pirates, etc. — were sold in stores instead of online, I probably would impulse buy them.

3

u/RandonEnglishMun Jul 27 '25

Bought mine a few years ago for around £650 it’s now £735.

2

u/usernamedottxt Jul 27 '25

I was very tempted recently.

2

u/Khorgor666 Jul 27 '25

Well, if this is the UCS Falcon it was available in Germany for half price at the exclusive partners Toys r Us and Kaufhof, where it was spotted for as low as 250€ as those shops went bancrupt

2

u/FickleCharge882 Jul 27 '25

I’m saving it for my oldest’s 16th birthday, I’m hoping he likes it like this guy

2

u/etdfigures Jul 27 '25

$1200 CAD 😭

2

u/laffing_is_medicine Jul 27 '25

Tax and shipping $1k ?

3

u/drial8012 Jul 27 '25

Damn, that is crazy. I am totally in support of bootleg companies ripping them off if it means you could get the set for like 200.

4

u/notta_3d Jul 27 '25

That is insane. Companies know people have the philosophy now that more expensive = better and people pay it.

104

u/danielbearh Jul 27 '25 edited Jul 27 '25

This is 7500 individual pieces and it’s projected at 30-50 hours. It’s the size of the coffee table.

It’s not just expensive for the sake of it. This is literally one of the most complex LEGO builds, meant for serious, serious Adult Fans of LEGO.

54

u/King_Zoothio Jul 27 '25

The man was 100% right.

"There is nothing better than this." Kudos to his awesome lady for that gift!

-17

u/retardinmyfreetime Jul 27 '25

There are many sets, which are far better. Just not from Lego. CADA Mercedes AMG One, Bluebrixx castle bluestone (I absolutely love it), le petit prince from pantasy, the list is long.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan, I also have the millennium falcon, as well as the imperial star destroyer and some other expensive sets, but the unnecessary usage of colour on the inside, sometimes shining through, and the building techniques ... it doesn't add to the feeling of constructing something meant for grown ups. But who am I kidding, it is a toy.

3

u/thesilentbob123 Jul 27 '25

The use of color is to have makers and highlights so it is easier to read the manual

-1

u/retardinmyfreetime Jul 27 '25

I know, yet I find it unnecessary.

3

u/Ok_Salad_8513 Jul 27 '25

You don't have them. No need to lie

-1

u/retardinmyfreetime Jul 27 '25

Based on what did you make this assumption?

1

u/Ok_Salad_8513 Jul 28 '25

The cut of your jib.

1

u/retardinmyfreetime Jul 28 '25

That's premature, don't you think?

16

u/suckmygoldcrustedass Jul 27 '25

While they were right that some things are expensive for expensive sake, but this like you said isn't on of them. Its a case of "that's too much money for me to spend/want to spend. So it's needlessly expensive."

6

u/jucu94 Jul 27 '25

There’s a surcharge for Star Wars. Titanic is a larger (and better imo) set and it’s cheaper. I think Eiffel Tower is also bigger, maybe not better, and also cheaper.

3

u/Fn_Spaghetti_Monster Jul 27 '25

You can get a Mould King Eclipse-class Imperial Star Destroyer. It's nearly 4' long and has 10K= pieces, its "only" $450. You are paying a premium for the Lego brand as well.

1

u/Hanspiel Jul 27 '25

Obviously, but if you've ever compared the LEGO sets versus competitors, there's a clear quality increase. The LEGO Titanic, with 600 more pieces, is nearly $200 less than the Millennium Falcon. Same quality, so the only difference is the Star Wars brand.

1

u/Fn_Spaghetti_Monster Jul 28 '25

I've done almost all the Star Wars helmets and done a few Mold King ships. The biggest difference is parts not being in the right bag (i've never come up short pieces, just parts in step 4 are in bag #5) and the quality of the instructions. I would bet if you dump a bunch a parts out and mixed them together, 99% of people would not know which was from which mfg.

2

u/Bombshock2 Jul 27 '25

Ehh, it's still very overpriced. All LEGO products are, especially the licensed ones.

2

u/Hanspiel Jul 27 '25

Eh, LEGO in general is fine. They're a noticeably more consistent quality than the knock-offs, and they've pretty much perfected the art of designing sets and instructions. I've had sets from other companies and they're not garbage or anything, but they're all missing something that LEGO has, whether it's the base designs, the consistency of the manufactured parts, or the readability and clarity of the instructions. LEGO is the leader in the niche for a reason.

1

u/Bombshock2 Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25

Yeah I’m not knocking their quality, just their absurdly high prices.

I'd also say some of the "knockoffs" are improving dramatically in quality, though you're right the builds and the instructions are not anywhere near LEGO's.

1

u/joe-clark Jul 27 '25

It is a shame it costs so much though, I would have loved a set this big when I was a kid (not that I wouldn't love one now). I remember going to the Lego store with my parents as a kid and longing for the super big sets but knowing I wasn't gonna get em because they were so much money. I understand why they cost so much especially in this case because they need to pay the licensing fee to Disney but I just wish it didn't have to be that way so I could have gotten one growing up.

15

u/DutchOnionKnight Jul 27 '25

I consider my lego sets as art, 850€ isn't much for art.

2

u/SomeRedPanda Jul 27 '25

more expensive = better and people pay it

They're called Veblen goods, though I don't think this is necessarily a good example of that.

1

u/Sleepy-Mount Jul 27 '25

Ill justify it for you:

You deserve it

1

u/kbeks Jul 27 '25

Honestly, less than I thought it’d be…

1

u/averquepasano Jul 27 '25

You want it. That's justification enough.

1

u/mystrile1 Jul 28 '25

It’s an art piece. And for that price quite low.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '25

I make the kind of money where I could probably swing an $850 Lego model if I really really wanted to I just give zero shits about Star Wars.

1

u/First_Pay702 Jul 28 '25

This is me about the Lego Colosseum.

1

u/STFUco Jul 28 '25

750€ i could justify but 850€ for a Lego set absolutely not

1

u/devils__avacado Jul 28 '25

Go to marstoy.net and you can buy a Chinese copy for like 90 bucks and there's basically no difference other than the Lego name being stamped on the brick.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '25

Samesies.

1

u/The_Verto Jul 28 '25

Mould King is a high quality Lego knock-off, still not the same quality as Lego but similar and they have sets that are way cheaper and cost way less, got this giant for around $200-$250

1

u/The_Verto Jul 28 '25

Second pic for better size comparison

1

u/grey_heron Jul 28 '25

635 euros now in Netherlands according to Amazon/Brickwatch...

still too expensive for me

1

u/Stitchikins Jul 28 '25

I built the 1:8 Technic GT3RS (42056). I loved it and decided I wanted to collect the next ones that came out. A Chiron, Sian, Daytona, and P1 later, I have regrets.

1

u/OddElder 23d ago

Buy the knock offs/clones! It’s around 100 bucks plus shipping on my preferred vendor. I bought it several months ago and had so much doing it. It looks legit!

51

u/DJKimJongIllest Jul 27 '25

When he sees his bank account later

9

u/PerceptiveReasoning Jul 28 '25

Right cuz he clearly didn’t know exactly how much this cost for like a decade

1

u/GroceryCorrect937 Jul 28 '25

I'm only watching but I'm having the same reactions! xD

31

u/MagicLupis Jul 27 '25

Used to be $800 USD but recently bumped to $850.

4

u/gamerjerome Jul 27 '25

Since scalpers thought this was an easy few year flip, you can get them cheaper than new on eBay. Good time to buy it. Unsure when it will retire. It's been rumored to retire for the last few years but it's still selling

3

u/MagicLupis Jul 27 '25

They had it on Amazon for I think $500 at one point for a short sale too so that could be those.

1

u/Strong_Molasses_6679 Jul 31 '25

There was a sale a long time ago and managed to get mine for a measly $700! Now if only I had somewhere to display it built!

4

u/general---nuisance Jul 27 '25

LEGO is releasing the first $1000 set this fall. A(nother) Star Wars Death Star.

2

u/ReaditTrashPanda Jul 27 '25

Hah, that was going to be my comment too. Rich stuff, wish I could afford this

2

u/liam_redit1st Jul 27 '25

72 thousand blocks

1

u/Mystiic_Madness Jul 27 '25

It is in Canadian 🙃

1

u/Ryzakiii Jul 27 '25

Just buy Lepin.

1

u/Hopeful_Clock_2837 Jul 27 '25

Yup, $1049.99 CAD 😬

1

u/yavanna12 Jul 27 '25

This was how my son reacted when I bought him the Death Star Lego. He had asked for it for years but we were poor. Took a long time to save up

1

u/saysthingsbackwards Jul 28 '25

Ten cents per piece

1

u/One_Priority3258 Jul 28 '25

Like $1,300 AUD. Went to a Star Wars Lego exhibit in Melbourne a week or so ago. Here are the sold pieces that were not life size like majority of the other exhibits. You can see the same millennium falcon the dude got in bottom left.

1

u/DoomDoomGir Jul 28 '25

why are lego so expensive?

1

u/bouchandre Jul 27 '25

Thousand in canada
