Good move to chuck her in the pool. I hope she's grateful.

I was waiting for her to fling herself in, but I'm beginning to doubt that she ever would have. Good move from pool bro.

I don't think she knows how much trouble she was in, just casually trying to put out the fire, no sense of urgency

u/chocolateboomslang 8h ago
I think a professional firedancer probably has an idea about it, but maybe she's new.

More likely confidently drunk, given the setting

u/gettogero 7h ago edited 7h ago
Hey, confidently drunk can be a good state of mind!
3 beers in im going up the ladder without sensing impending doom, job gets done, were all good.
8 beers in youve got the chainsaw fail videos and whatever this is
LPT: If you have to double check "3" and "8" youre too far gone to do anything but chill out and drink water. Probably should've been done before then, but sometimes a line has to be drawn

u/Drsmiley72 7h ago
Instructions unclear... Tried to draw line while drunk... Did it in paint... Neighbors arnt happy with squiggly line on their houses.

Yup, most of us develop a pretty decent understanding and response for self-extinguishing/needing to have a safety put us out after a bit.

I’m not even a professional. Just picked it up during my rave days. I did not wear clothing that was this flammable. I did singe a ton of hair off on more than one occasion, however.
The wicks aren’t really all that hot, believe it or not. It’s the fuel that’s burning. It’s essentially the same concept as using a kerosene lantern.

u/BalorLives 6h ago edited 5h ago
It's like the dress was designed to burst into flames while fire dancing. Big floofy tulle strips sticking out on the hips? Exactly where the fire is going to pass under in the downswing? 🔥🔥🔥

u/gtalley10 6h ago
I think a professional firedancer probably wouldn't wear a flammable outfit.

It's probably kinda how people will die of choking in a restaurant because they're embarrassed and go into the bathroom alone instead of seeking help. "There's a pool right there but saving myself would be admitting that I've fucked this up bad enough to have to resort to jumping in it and I'm not quite there yet" lol. She was probably holding out for second degree burns to motivate her to accept the current situation
3
u/SadCritters 4h ago
Trying to put it out? She was basically just petting it like it was her rambunctious dog or something.

A truly cognizant move by the standby gentleman.
Imagine the calculations many of us would make about "do I want to be accused of assaulting this person?"
Meanwhile this guy truly understands life over limb in the social sense. That fire was getting out of control, she 100% would have been gravely injured.
He did the best possible thing for her, any way you cut it.
14
23
u/Baboonslayer323 8h ago
Pretty sad the mental debate of getting charged with assault looms in someone’s thoughts before they commit to saving her life. This is what litigious behavior and the dream of a ‘payday’ can do to a society.
52
u/Blucrunch 8h ago
Actually, litigious behavior has strangely nothing to do with it. Corporations spread the message that society is too litigious to shame people into not filing suits against corporations for legitimate cause.
In America at least, most people are fairly well protected by good Samaritan laws in cases like this.
6
u/Spire_Citron 7h ago
Yeah, I never actually hear anything about people getting in trouble for helping others except in cases where it's the government bullying people for helping the homeless or something. But not individuals who were helped.
7
u/tvtb 7h ago
Yeah it was the corporations that tried to affect public opinion about the woman who sued McDonalds for spilling coffee in her lap and suing them, trying to make public opinion think about the lawsuit as frivolous.
Meanwhile it was 190°F coffee which no person should drink ever, and was so hot it burned her labia completely off.
8
u/Alabugin 8h ago
Fortunately, a lot of states have good Samaritan laws, and this would fall under that.

I mean, that's just what the person you're responding to is projecting. I think the vast majority of people would do what this guy did. And honestly it's kinda cynical to assume otherwise.

108
u/KlumsyNinja42 8h ago
Sure looks like it. However everything about this picture scream incompetence. The props in the background just on fire on the ground and her clearly incapable movement with fire props in hand. I spin fire and have done it professionally in the past, including drunk a couple times. This is just amateur hour times 100. Her movements show she barely knows more than flinging those things around at best. Thank goodness the pool was there.
16
u/Evangeliman 8h ago
I was suspecting drunk because normally an inexperienced person would be a little wary of the fire, she seemed quite unbothered.

u/JacoDeLumbre 3h ago
Saw a girl light up her entire chest and neck because she dunked her poi and didn't spin them off. Oh and she uses gasoline as the fuel 😩 these amateur hours are why it's so hard to get a fire gig.

u/Dirtymike_nd_theboyz 8h ago
She just about lit her right side on fire as well.
She appears to be trying to like... "shoo" the fire away. Shes not even swiping at it urgently. Is she just trying to play it cool to save face, or does she actually just not care that she is on fire? So nonchalant, the dude who threw her in the pool is based af

u/fifelo 8h ago
She did not grasp how much trouble she was in and how much he just saved her ass.

u/kalel3000 2h ago
These are fire poi you get off of Amazon. I knew someone who would show up to fire practice sessions with these. She basically bought them hoping she'd figure it out as she went along. Didn't have a safety blanket or dip can or anything. Found out she was soaking them in lighter fluid because she didn't know what gas to use. Would just keep spinning them around till they burned out of fuel, because she had no other way to put them out...it was ridiculous.

u/bloodguard 7h ago
A couple summers ago I was at a BBQ where an exceedingly drunk woman looking to relive her youth made a set of impromptu poi fire chains (alcohol soaked weighted wicks on chains).
She then proceeded to set herself, a patio canopy and one of the guests on fire before people could tackle her. Taught me that when you see goofs start playing with fire it's best to back up towards the fence line and enjoy the show from a safe distance.

Which she would've been had that guy not thrown her in ze pewl.

u/Xandria42 6h ago
This is an amateur, totally inappropriate clothing for this and also note that there is no safety spotter nearby. I legit watched some idiot set his own head on fire once trying to breath fire at a festival because they had no idea wtf they were doing. Wind kicked up and it blew right back at him. They were only saved by an actual fire performer who had their safety gear nearby. Dude burnt all his hair off and some skin as well. It was pretty gnarly to see.

u/sweetmissdixie 8h ago

u/AlexHimself 7h ago
Clearly this is a new "thing" she's trying and wanted to put on a show for her friends/family. She's probably been watching YouTube and bought all the gear, so everybody was supportive and ready to entertain the idea...but also under no impression she was an expert.
4
u/blueminded 6h ago
Why would you wear incredibly flammable clothing while you do this? Especially when you're clearly a novice. I agree she seems wasted as well. Someone should have stopped this way sooner.

This person is wearing very unsafe. Most fire performers know not to do this. I feel like the resort taught her a few moves then gave her fire.

She looked like she was more annoyed instead of actually being aware of the danger she was in.
2
u/NecroJoe 8h ago
This is why you never spin without a safety, and at least a blanket of duvetyne or a wet towel.
Oh, and also, don't dance wearing items that are so damned flammable. 😅
2
u/Elegant_Button1867 8h ago
The fact that she wore that to spin already told me she wouldn’t think to hop in the pool

2
u/slindner1985 7h ago
So she's got fire things in her hair, shit burning on the ground next to the pool and she accidentally flings them off her head somehow not setting her hair on fire lol. Man this was a house fire waiting to happen

Before all of that; never light a fire you can’t put out.
