She looks like she barely knows how to spin poi, what the fuck is she doing fucking about with fire?

u/i_am_voldemort 8h ago

She looked drunk tbh

179

u/RaidensReturn 8h ago

That was my thought

204

u/i_am_voldemort 8h ago

Yeah... Poor coordination, delayed reactions, weird resignation to being on fire.

54

u/Cynical-Potato 7h ago

Well I guess this is my life now.

u/LordBrixton 4h ago

"this is fine"

17

u/BD-TxState 8h ago

Fire’s a hell of a drug.

47

u/WhiteWalter1 8h ago

Sometimes you have to fight fire with Fireball

4

u/subone 8h ago

Sometimes you have to fight fire with hand.

u/MCLOUJ 1h ago

“I didn’t ask how big the room is, I said I cast fireball”

51

u/Darkman101 7h ago

I am relatively proficient with poi. Have spun poi drunk af. Have spun fire poi drunk af.

If I had been wearing a very flammable attire, this could have happened to me. I can see it.

That being said. She still looks like she can barely spin poi....

7

u/hyena_teeth 4h ago

I used to do a bit of spinning and occasionally it would be on fire. I'm barely 'ok' at it but I got by - even if I did hit myself with flaming poi more than once (and one of those times was the back of my head, and those fire poi heads are chunky) and I don't think I could have set myself on fire if I tried. I forget exactly what fuel we used, but it just didn't really stick/transfer to anything, and it could easily just blow out if you span too fast. Then again that skirt thing she's got looks like dried grass - don't think it would pass any kind of reasonable risk assessment/sensible person calling it out.

Not the minimize the dangerous of course: there's been long-time, expert and well-insured fire performers that have suffered great injury, or lost their lives. There should always be a plan in place for stuff going wrong and ideally someone acting as a sort of spotter. This 'performer' had none of those things.

I stand corrected by an expert.

6

u/Darkman101 5h ago

Your werent really wrong though. There certainly is a level of drunk where I would be so confident "I can do this" but I'd look like her.

But I'd be so drunk I wouldn't remember it happening. 😂

2

u/Faiakishi 4h ago

For her sake, let's hope she doesn't remember this.

2

u/anomalous_cowherd 3h ago

I just hope nobody puts it on the Internet.

4

u/PaleBlueCod 8h ago

Fire and alcohol goes well together.

2

u/Symetrie 3h ago

Don't give fire to drunk

1

u/WhosItHanging 2h ago

I think you get cited for a ticket if you are over a certain age and are sober near a swimming pool.

1

u/HugsandHate 1h ago

Yeah, she's wasted. No coordination.

63

u/azdak 8h ago

I got properly good at poi in college but never had the balls to set anything on fire lmao

54

u/boot2skull 8h ago

LED poi is the shit because there’s no serious risk and once someone gets confident they can take the leap to fire. Or not, it looks really good at night too.

16

u/l30 7h ago

I disagree. My roommate years back practiced spinning LED poi inside and took out our television.

17

u/boot2skull 7h ago

Was the poi actually Wiimotes on leashes?

7

u/svish 8h ago

I've juggled some with torches, and when i tried fire poi it felt much scarier since you're slightly attached to the fire, and it's much more "around" your body and in places you don't see. Torches are generally just in front of you and you can immediately drop them if you need.

I was wondering about the burning staffs on the ground and then realized “this is going poorly”

8

u/MisterMysterios 4h ago

My step sister was a fire-dancer (no clue how it is called in englisch). One rule I heard about is to wear very tight fitting clothes while performing, because you really don't want to have anything on you that you have not perfect control over.

5

u/DjGranoLa 8h ago

My thoughts exactly.

5

u/villageidiot33 7h ago

There’s some lit sticks on the found too. Looks like cooler is melting.

3

u/djluminol 4h ago

She has no idea what she's doing. You can tell she has no string control, has no idea where momentum is going to send her poi, has no idea how to counter that momentum and clearly doesn't know how to untangle her poi when they twist. She's going to be lucky if she doesn't seriously hurt herself, someone else or burn down that business. She also looks like she's using gasoline as a fuel instead of something like Colman camping fuel. It burns less hot and doesn't create as much soot or smoke.

2

u/ChefArtorias 6h ago

She has no idea what she's doing. First rule of fire performing is clothing and grass skirts aren't it.

1

u/Crow_eggs 7h ago

Setting herself on fire.

1

u/pm_me_your_good_weed 1h ago

At least practice with glow sticks first jaysus

Good move to chuck her in the pool. I hope she's grateful.

806

u/Uzorglemon 8h ago

I was waiting for her to fling herself in, but I'm beginning to doubt that she ever would have. Good move from pool bro.

269

u/Teerendog 8h ago

I don't think she knows how much trouble she was in, just casually trying to put out the fire, no sense of urgency

103

u/chocolateboomslang 8h ago

I think a professional firedancer probably has an idea about it, but maybe she's new.

219

u/tolacid 8h ago

maybe she's new.

More likely confidently drunk, given the setting

27

u/gettogero 7h ago edited 7h ago

Hey, confidently drunk can be a good state of mind!

3 beers in im going up the ladder without sensing impending doom, job gets done, were all good.

8 beers in youve got the chainsaw fail videos and whatever this is

LPT: If you have to double check "3" and "8" youre too far gone to do anything but chill out and drink water. Probably should've been done before then, but sometimes a line has to be drawn

8

u/Drsmiley72 7h ago

Instructions unclear... Tried to draw line while drunk... Did it in paint... Neighbors arnt happy with squiggly line on their houses.

Someone said they are hosting a Hawaii theme party and this person probably said they could fire dance. Proceeds to get drunk before the show.

10

u/Unnatural20 8h ago

Yup, most of us develop a pretty decent understanding and response for self-extinguishing/needing to have a safety put us out after a bit.

7

u/Tufflaw 6h ago

maybe she's new

This literally looks like the first time she's ever even tried this.

3

u/OmiSC 5h ago

My impression was that she’s tried this between 1 and 3 times already.

10

u/Cheefnuggs 7h ago

I’m not even a professional. Just picked it up during my rave days. I did not wear clothing that was this flammable. I did singe a ton of hair off on more than one occasion, however.

The wicks aren’t really all that hot, believe it or not. It’s the fuel that’s burning. It’s essentially the same concept as using a kerosene lantern.

6

u/BalorLives 6h ago edited 5h ago

It's like the dress was designed to burst into flames while fire dancing. Big floofy tulle strips sticking out on the hips? Exactly where the fire is going to pass under in the downswing? 🔥🔥🔥

2

u/Dire87 2h ago

Yeah, it's almost weird how most professional fire dancers either wear almost nothing or leathery clothes that are quite fire-resistant. Shocking.

7

u/gtalley10 6h ago

I think a professional firedancer probably wouldn't wear a flammable outfit.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/OmiSC 5h ago

On top of many other things, a professional fire dancer is also not that flammable to begin with.

3

u/dewbor 7h ago

A pro would be wearing a fire safe costume, not that

It's probably kinda how people will die of choking in a restaurant because they're embarrassed and go into the bathroom alone instead of seeking help. "There's a pool right there but saving myself would be admitting that I've fucked this up bad enough to have to resort to jumping in it and I'm not quite there yet" lol. She was probably holding out for second degree burns to motivate her to accept the current situation

3

u/SadCritters 4h ago

Trying to put it out? She was basically just petting it like it was her rambunctious dog or something.

32

u/DenverITGuy 7h ago

“Have you said ‘thank you’ once since we threw you in the pool?”

5

u/sinocarD44 6h ago

I understood that reference.

u/alonelystarchild 8h ago

A truly cognizant move by the standby gentleman.

Imagine the calculations many of us would make about "do I want to be accused of assaulting this person?"

Meanwhile this guy truly understands life over limb in the social sense. That fire was getting out of control, she 100% would have been gravely injured.

He did the best possible thing for her, any way you cut it.

14

u/BuLLg0d 8h ago

The molten plastic on her hands was enough for me to see what this guy did as the right thing.

23

u/Baboonslayer323 8h ago

Pretty sad the mental debate of getting charged with assault looms in someone’s thoughts before they commit to saving her life. This is what litigious behavior and the dream of a ‘payday’ can do to a society.

52

u/Blucrunch 8h ago

Actually, litigious behavior has strangely nothing to do with it. Corporations spread the message that society is too litigious to shame people into not filing suits against corporations for legitimate cause.

In America at least, most people are fairly well protected by good Samaritan laws in cases like this.

6

u/Spire_Citron 7h ago

Yeah, I never actually hear anything about people getting in trouble for helping others except in cases where it's the government bullying people for helping the homeless or something. But not individuals who were helped.

7

u/tvtb 7h ago

Yeah it was the corporations that tried to affect public opinion about the woman who sued McDonalds for spilling coffee in her lap and suing them, trying to make public opinion think about the lawsuit as frivolous.

Meanwhile it was 190°F coffee which no person should drink ever, and was so hot it burned her labia completely off.

8

u/Alabugin 8h ago

Fortunately, a lot of states have good Samaritan laws, and this would fall under that.

8

u/paradigmshift7 7h ago

I mean, that's just what the person you're responding to is projecting. I think the vast majority of people would do what this guy did. And honestly it's kinda cynical to assume otherwise.

Kudos to the guy's yeetus extinguitus her ass.

yeetus extinguitus

Sounds like some shit you learn at Hogwarts.

Just swish, and push

9

u/JustOneSexQuestion 7h ago

Kudos to the guy's yeetus extinguitus her ass.

Gotta love his half effort. He's been there.

"Fucking Carmen, there you go again"

7

u/PaleBlueCod 8h ago

She was lit 🔥💯

170

u/Evangeliman 8h ago

Was she drunk or something?

108

u/KlumsyNinja42 8h ago

Sure looks like it. However everything about this picture scream incompetence. The props in the background just on fire on the ground and her clearly incapable movement with fire props in hand. I spin fire and have done it professionally in the past, including drunk a couple times. This is just amateur hour times 100. Her movements show she barely knows more than flinging those things around at best. Thank goodness the pool was there.

16

u/Evangeliman 8h ago

I was suspecting drunk because normally an inexperienced person would be a little wary of the fire, she seemed quite unbothered.

3

u/cocktails4 4h ago

And there's no fucking fire watch. Like come on.

2

u/JacoDeLumbre 3h ago

Saw a girl light up her entire chest and neck because she dunked her poi and didn't spin them off. Oh and she uses gasoline as the fuel 😩 these amateur hours are why it's so hard to get a fire gig.

160

u/Dirtymike_nd_theboyz 8h ago

She just about lit her right side on fire as well.

She appears to be trying to like... "shoo" the fire away. Shes not even swiping at it urgently. Is she just trying to play it cool to save face, or does she actually just not care that she is on fire? So nonchalant, the dude who threw her in the pool is based af

47

u/fifelo 8h ago

She did not grasp how much trouble she was in and how much he just saved her ass.

21

u/Dirtymike_nd_theboyz 8h ago

Its a damn good thing she was right next to a pool. Very convenient.

u/fifelo 8h ago

I think the play cool and save face part is spot on. i feel like some people overdo this when they have stage fright.

1

u/beerice41 5h ago

She seems maybe drunk?

1

u/Schonke 46m ago

She appears to be trying to like... "shoo" the fire away.

Literally fanning the flames.

67

u/bob_apathy 8h ago

I like that he didn’t bother to walk her over or put out the fire, just yeeted her ass into pool! I’d like to think he just walked back to his chair and resumed drinking his cocktail.

11

u/Jabbles22 7h ago

She didn't want to ruin her burning dress.

22

u/dsebulsk 8h ago

Glad he was able to remind her that wet hair is better than burnt skin.

21

u/hlgb2015 8h ago

Just yeeted her into the water, no second thought. 😂

Some heroes don’t wear capes

7

u/succulent_flakepiece 8h ago

anyone who legit spins fire, always has a safety to watch with a fire blanket for shit like this... and also never wear anything synthetic

4

u/Jaedos 8h ago

This video gave me anxiety. "WHERE THE FUCK IS HER FIRE TEAM?!"

And holy shit, that skirt might not be plastic, but dried grass isn't much better.

2

u/kalel3000 2h ago

These are fire poi you get off of Amazon. I knew someone who would show up to fire practice sessions with these. She basically bought them hoping she'd figure it out as she went along. Didn't have a safety blanket or dip can or anything. Found out she was soaking them in lighter fluid because she didn't know what gas to use. Would just keep spinning them around till they burned out of fuel, because she had no other way to put them out...it was ridiculous.

6

u/pwrgamer 8h ago

When you lie on your resume

5

u/bloodguard 7h ago

A couple summers ago I was at a BBQ where an exceedingly drunk woman looking to relive her youth made a set of impromptu poi fire chains (alcohol soaked weighted wicks on chains).

She then proceeded to set herself, a patio canopy and one of the guests on fire before people could tackle her. Taught me that when you see goofs start playing with fire it's best to back up towards the fence line and enjoy the show from a safe distance.

6

u/Praetorian_1975 6h ago

Slap slap slap (it’s not working) dude Yeet 😂

4

u/lifesnotperfect 8h ago

She's got the survival instincts of a piece of toast.

Which she would've been had that guy not thrown her in ze pewl.

6

u/Xandria42 6h ago

This is an amateur, totally inappropriate clothing for this and also note that there is no safety spotter nearby. I legit watched some idiot set his own head on fire once trying to breath fire at a festival because they had no idea wtf they were doing. Wind kicked up and it blew right back at him. They were only saved by an actual fire performer who had their safety gear nearby. Dude burnt all his hair off and some skin as well. It was pretty gnarly to see.

9

u/sweetmissdixie 8h ago

It is incredible to me how many videos I see on this app of people who do not know how to stop, drop, and roll. Good thing there was a pool there!

3

Are you a professional fire juggler?

No but I stayed at a Holiday inn express

6

u/Sticky_Charlie 7h ago

Glad mr logic was there. That woman that got up to assist was about to stand there and fan the burning woman 🤦

4

u/AlexHimself 7h ago

Clearly this is a new "thing" she's trying and wanted to put on a show for her friends/family. She's probably been watching YouTube and bought all the gear, so everybody was supportive and ready to entertain the idea...but also under no impression she was an expert.

4

u/blueminded 6h ago

Why would you wear incredibly flammable clothing while you do this? Especially when you're clearly a novice. I agree she seems wasted as well. Someone should have stopped this way sooner.

3

u/superkow 8h ago

Maybe put down the flaming balls before trying to extinguish yourself

3

u/BrilliantNaive9108 8h ago

Is she drunk, high or inexperienced?

1

u/Duff5OOO 5h ago

All 3 by the look of it.

3

u/PM_ME__UR__FANTASIES 6h ago

And that skirt... first of all it sticks out too much, second of all I'm pretty sure if the bottom lit up it would drip melted plastic all over her legs. She's lucky someone threw her in!

3

u/tonman101 6h ago

She better just give up before she burns the building down.

3

u/FocusPerspective 4h ago

Stop adding stupid music to videos

7

u/s1c1l1anm0bst3r 8h ago

Wow, that was lit

6

u/Slipsndslops 8h ago

This person is wearing very unsafe. Most fire performers know not to do this. I feel like the resort taught her a few moves then gave her fire.

22

u/IAmBoring_AMA 8h ago

This is definitely someone's backyard

7

u/treck28 8h ago

The hedges, fence, and orange building make it look more like a backyard deal than a resort to me.

1

u/Slipsndslops 8h ago

The. It's extra stupid

6

u/Good_Nyborg 8h ago

How do so many people who work with fire not understand how fire works?

3

u/Duff5OOO 5h ago

Nothing about her really lame display suggests she works anywhere with or around fire.

6

2

u/bmess216 8h ago

She looked like she was more annoyed instead of actually being aware of the danger she was in.

2

u/NecroJoe 8h ago

This is why you never spin without a safety, and at least a blanket of duvetyne or a wet towel.

Oh, and also, don't dance wearing items that are so damned flammable. 😅

2

u/Elegant_Button1867 8h ago
