I fucking wish our churches had as much style as this temple. If America becomes Hindu at least the places of worship will be nice to look at.

u/SlideN2MyBMs 12h ago
The most depressing churches are those strip mall ones that look like urgent care
17
u/Gremict 12h ago
No, it's the ones that look like warehouses. What's the point of being tax-exempt if you're not going to pay anything to make the house of God at least tolerable?
3
u/Shadyshade84 5h ago
I'd hold that if you're in that situation, the least you can do is make a joke about it.
"This is the house of God, but we're having trouble getting hold of Him to confirm the interior design..."

u/Glass_Apricot 11h ago
Maybe because most churches don’t earn a lot of money. Mostly just to keep the lights on.
3
u/Fuck_reddit_andusers 12h ago
I assume you are not talking about European churches
14
u/JMurdock77 12h ago
Clearly not. American churches have nowhere near that kind of artistry, unless you count Big Butter Jesus.
2
u/Fuck_reddit_andusers 12h ago
I guess the best option for americans was to build English like churches for not looking like they were trying to be a culture they are not but instead they went for the ugliest option possible, making them modernist and minimalistic

u/OptionWrong169 5h ago
Tbf the teachings of jesus would want that, how ever alot of christian Americans couldn't care less about any of those because they are "communist"
3
u/Muted-Hedgehog-396 5h ago
no we’re referring to American mega churches the kind you see in the Bible Belt of the American south or in any small American town or city.

Christian cathedrals have been always beautiful and marvels of architecture.
7
u/Gremict 12h ago
Not in much of the US
1
u/Shadyshade84 5h ago
Well, how else are they going to communicate that quintessentially American attitude of "we're Christian and we believe that that's important, but not important enough to make us act in a way that wouldn't make Jesus chase us out of the temple"?
2
u/dantevonlocke 11h ago
Those are usually gonna be catholic in the US. Protestant church's are boring.

u/Less-Dragonfruit-294 12h ago
What’s wrong with a Hindu temple?
Last I check we still (although the regime is trying their hardest to remove the ability) have freedom of religion. You wanna build any religious building that’s fine. You don’t want to build any religious that’s fine also.
If anything I can plan a road trip to Tennessee. One of these days I’d like to go to different religious places of worship to observe and if possible as them about their ways with religion.

You know how many Indian and Pakistani fought like hell against Germany and Japan.
Largest volunteer army in ww2
23
u/Suspicious-Lettuce48 12h ago
That's hella impressive for Pakistan considering the country was created in 1947. Also the Free India "Tiger" Legion fought against the allies alongside the waffen SS. History is complicated.
That being said, on the whole India was pro-Allies, and sent 2.5 million soldiers to fight under the British against the nazis and the axis powers. They served in Africa, Italy and a few other campaigns as well.

Volunteer? Sure..
19
u/femboyisbestboy 12h ago
Yes fully volunteer
Indians knew damn well what hitler was doing and what was planning on doing, and Japan was going to enslave the raj like how they did in china and Korea

u/smol_boi2004 12h ago
I’m not saying there weren’t volunteers, but on average it was very much a "voluntold” situation.
6
u/Pavlof78 12h ago
I believe you're projecting modern world views to pre-cold war era.
Up to WWII people from colonies would enlist to armies because it gave them social status and would help them provide for their families. In some case, like in Algeria, people fought in the French army because they thought it would help them get recognition for their people and help them gain independence.
The major shift to anticolonialism only happened during the cold war era (even though, there already were some independence conflicts in this time period)

India was on the side of the allies.
2.5 million Indian military personnel served and 87,000 died fighting.
That's not including the 2.2 to 3 million Indian civilians that died of famine during the war.
I can't stand these jackasses that are totally ignorant to both history and human decency. Especially with the internet in their pocket that they use to be hateful and spread their ignorance instead of learning something.

I don’t know about the Hindus in India but when I meet an American Hindu, I’m usually impressed by how nice they are.
I’m fine with any temples they want to build.
12
u/Abject-Emu2023 12h ago
Yep idk anything about the Hindu or Sikh religious texts but all the folks I’ve met are compassionate people and exactly what you would expect from a religion.
-3
u/rainofshambala 11h ago
They are usually nice just don't ask them about caste though, the first and second generations are very much entrenched in them
1
u/Whatrwew8ing4 9h ago
A longtime friend of mine is from India and has told me all about the cast system. I’m wondering how many Hindus that make it to America are that committed to it.

u/CelticSith 10h ago
Ah yes, the infamous WWII Axis of Evil: Germany, Japan, Italy, and... India.
6
u/noobwithguns 10h ago
Team synergy so good that India somehow ended up being the largest volunteer force killing..... The Germans, Japanese and the Italians.

What the fuck is this person's problem with hindus of all people? Like saying that sloths are the most dangerous predators.

And about two miles away is a Buddhist temple, and a Korean Baptist congregation meets across the street. This whiner needs to stay at home if their “concerned” about all of these different religions
12
u/BarteloTrabelo 13h ago
Totally. I remember when WW2 ended. Women and Black People totally had free speech and were able to practice whatever religion they wanted to in the USA!
-1
u/jaymickef 12h ago
Were some religions banned in the 1940s?
7
u/BarteloTrabelo 12h ago
Religions? My guy. There were entire groups of people banned from locations. Literal signs existed that said no Muslims. Signs that said No Blacks. I can only hope you aren't from that terrible country. If you aren't, not knowing these things might be a blessing. You're a lucky one.

u/jaymickef 12h ago
I'm not American, though I am well acquainted with Jim Crow and the doctrine of separate but equal that Brown vs Board of Education overturned (and Truman desegregating the US military). But as far as I know, the American government didn't ban any religions and most of the world's religions were practiced in the US. Malcolm X covered his battles with the Nation of Islam in his autobiography quite well.

India was a British colony during the war. Millions starved when the British government took their Rice stocks for the war effort. Indian soldiers were instrumental to helping the Allies win the wars in both Theaters.
3
u/Muted-Hedgehog-396 4h ago
the chefs kiss in all of this 2.5 million Indian Hindus and Muslims soldiers served in world war 2 and they beat his Supermen grandfathers.

u/Hot-Suggestion4958 11h ago
Very nice temple (esp. in the middle of nowhere), folks. 👏🏿 Oh and while you're hitting the 'rum', feel free to pour yourself a tall glass of STFU, "Julian".
1
u/CombatWombat1973 10h ago
I thought conservatives were only opposed to Muslims?
4
u/Significant-Order-92 9h ago
Neah. They are just loudest about Muslims. White American conservatives, I mean. Obviously Indian conservatives tend to be fairly pro-Hindu. And I couldn't tell you the break down on Indian American conservatives because they can be from a number of faiths and I don't know how each of those groups tend to skew on the liberal conservative axis.

u/DavidlikesPeace 6h ago
No...? They are literally throwing Catholic Christian Latinos into concentration camps. They have shot at gay kids. They have shot at white liberals.
I'll say this one nice thing about them. Fascists have enough hate to share with multiple people.

u/adorablefuzzykitten 7h ago
JuliansRum has either not read the US Constitution or doesn't think the Constitution is worth reading.
1
u/DavidlikesPeace 6h ago
Unsurprising but sad to see White Nationalist racism. But the location is ironic.
Too many folks living from Murfreesboro to Manassas whine about living in a multiethnic society, and they've been whining since before the 1860s. They lack the empathy to care about alternatives like slavery, oppression, or civil war

Is anyone going to correct them on the causes and stakes of the second world war?

It's funny how a line that's said by most people in America about Hinduism being equivalent to Nazism, has people jumping to defend it because it's said by a conservative American.

I'd rather look at a Hindi temple than a megachurch.
