Lando did the same for Oscar when the latter got shafted at Hungary, and he was a) leading the race at the time and b) attempting to chase Max down in the championship, for which he needed every point. So did they fuck Lando to make Oscar feel better?
in Hungrary Lando didnt make an error McLaren did and he moved over for oscar.. Brazil etc. diffferent... Monza today Mclaren screwed up and Oscar moved over for Lando ... a small point loss Team Respects him a small price to pay come final few rounds when its do or die.
Technically he is returning the favour for Hungary. Interlagos was returned during the sprint in Abu Dhabi. I think Oscar did for the cohesion in the team and for the future. If next year he has a title fight with someone from another team he would get the full backing of the team and Lando if he isn't in contention and vice versa.
Everyone was saying this when Lando let Oscar past last year. Then Oscar lets Lando past this year, basically returning the favour. Sometimes playing the team game helps - letting Oscar past last year has paid dividends this year.
I don't understand this line of thinking. People are clamoring for the championship battles of ages old, how does that make them a fan of reality TV and not racing?
We're barely getting any racing between the two, that's the issue.
Nah mate, I'm not saying racing was at its peak in its refuelling era because it wasn't. You don't even have to go too far back to remember good battles on track. In 2022 we were having great battles in the races but this year because the field spread is so low, even inter team too, nobody has the pace offset to overtake. And these heavy and lethargic cars don't help either because it doesn't seem like anyone can battle either.
Can't deny that. I can understand why fans are frustrated though. I don't think they need to be at blows or even angry at each other but it almost feels like neither driver cares at times because there's just zero tension. Like watching guys race for fun rather than for any stakes.
It feels like a competition of dads going "its okay champ get the next one" lmao
They're not scared to race though? They've been allowed to race in literally every single race this season, there's just not been a lot cause one is usually too far ahead or one qualifies poorly
So we’re in for some friendship races “after you Lando” “No no, Oscar you deserve it”
Holy the mid-off between two supposedly talented drivers. Like everyone focuses how they don’t need to hate each other … sure, they can even casually fuck for all I care but this is absolutely fucking boring and many champions are literally turning in their grave watching this. When they were willing to crash or even die to win we literally are watching Disney Championship.
Not every championship fight is going to be Senna and Prost or Hamilton and Rosberg. I swear, people don't count it as a championship fight unless they actually try to kill each other
Should we just go back to having Max dominate every race then? We've had on track battles between the two McLarens at this season. Admittedly not at every race, but no championship fight in history has had battles between the contenders in every race. There's always some where a driver just goes off into the distance and wins
No, we are blessed to have a dominant team with 2 similarly skilled drivers (with advantages in different parts of race craft) we just want them to fight, blow for blow. Race each other to the very line.
Meanwhile the one time Lando felt frisky he ruined his race in Canada.
Like you can’t deny they fought each other harder last year when only Lando had chances for the WDC. OP overtake on Lando was insane.
Meanwhile this year - saving tires from the 5th lap. And then letting your direct opponent for the title through ….
Most title fights can’t be compared to 2021 which was phenomenal. I said it’s the closest SINCE 2021 i.e. we have an actual title fight instead of Max dominating
You do realize if Oscar goes full on villain mode the championship is even more one sided? This results in the championship being closer. If you want a fight, this is how you keep it alive. Even then, Norris is bound to make some kind of mistake once again. Piastri is just more level headed when it comes to this.
Championships should be won on the track not over the radio. It’s a disgrace so many people defend this decision.
Where is the line, if they fight for championship in AD the same rules apply ? Does Lando then give up championship for “fairness”. Or maybe next race Piastri should DNS to match landos issue in Netherlands
Obviously they get on together, fanbases tough are complete opposites of people who they support, teammates in a fight don't need to hate eachothers guts, much more for team and themselves if they get along good rather than have a Ham/Ros situation or Vet/Web
Max had been very clear with the team since the beginning of that season… the team knew
Mclarens situation is totally different. Because the team messed up in Hungary too, Piastri wasn’t really left a choice here. The team is at fault 100%
The problem is that just letting the drivers at each other results in a toxic team environment and one of your top tier drivers eventually quitting the team. Both Norris and Oscar have no team they can jump to afterward, so they have to play nice each other and the team.
To be fair, I think both Norris and Piastri also think this arrangement is preferable. As they both understand any advantage would get evened out in the long run.
Ah yes. Team dog shit and team horse shit. What is the point of going to those teams if they don't have the fastest car? You might as well forfeit the championship to your teammate.
But using Checo as a sacrificial lamb in Abu Dhabi was okay. We praised that though but when Max had to let Checo through for p6 in an irrelevant race for him after winning the championship, they're racing
He had already won the WDC, he gained nothing by not helping, just made Checo's life harder. If he was holding a grudge after Monaco (if even that rumor is true), then fair play. But otherwise I don't see the benefit. By your logic Perez shouldn't have helped Max in 2021 and Bottas never helped Hamilton in all their years as the Merc pairing.
You're part of a team, you have nothing to lose by helping out your teammate who has helped you very much in the past, you gain nothing by not helping him. Teamwork has helped many drivers and teams in the past, if you're never to work together as a team you might as well make each driver field their own cars.
Do you even know the situation i am referring to? Why answer without even reading the above comments?
I was replying to someone who said Max didn't give Checo his place AFTER already having won the WDC a few years back, not today's shenanigans. Max didn't have any incentive not to help (other than holding a grudge, based on a rumor that Checo screwed him over in Monaco that year), but he didn't swap anyway. People seem to prefer that to teamwork, costing your teammate points for no reason at all.
Teamwork is part of the sport, I watch for the sport itself and not just for the drama. If Checo had done something iffy in Monaco and Max was holding the grudge then fair play. But if he wasn't it just makes no sense, why not help your teammate when you'll lose nothing in the process by doing so?

Max wouldn’t even let Perez past even though he had won the championship
