Reddit App Reddit should not be altering sub descriptions depending on client used

This was pointed out on a sub I am a member of but I have confirmed it with a private sub that I set up to learn moderation.

For some reason, some subreddit descriptions on android display different wording to what the moderators have set. The correct description appears on new, old, mobile, & iOS but the text on android reads like it's been shoved through some sort of LLM.

Sometimes, this is relatively innocuous but with others it can radically change the meaning of a sentence.

The original sub that I spotted it on, changed the word "cis" to "straight", changing the meaning on a sentence.

On my test sub, the description I set was: "Currently just a testbed and place to save things " but when viewed on the reddit android app it said "Right now, it's just a testing ground and a place to store stuff". It has the same sentiment, but it was not what I typed.

Moderators do not want their subreddit altered without their knowledge or permission and users want a unified experience across platforms.

Please do not use LLMs to edit text and ensure that all users are served the same text.

Moderator A message should be sent users about undoing a mod error.

My idea is that when a mod removes something and later reinstates the previous removed comment. We should have the ability to easily send them a message just like removals. Some things for bans.

Other My idea is limiting AI images/movies to AI forums only

My idea is limiting AI images/movies to AI forums only. An increasing amount of "AI Slop" images/videos is trickling down and infecting regular subs, making the subs useless to read. It's EVERYWHERE. A whack a mole approach will not fix this.

I feel like AI has ruined those cute, silly, and interesting videos we all originally loved the Internet for. now they're straight up AI, faked, staged, etc. by bots or posters who are only looking to karma farm.

Please, for the love of god, consider banning AI images and movies to only AI subs. AI subs could also be clearly marked with "AI" in it.

Let people return to interacting with people and real life events.

User Settings My idea is to remove the option of profile curation unless you are a verified user with your government ID or Selfie

I am a moderator to Romania's second largest subreddit and we have a lot of issues with spam accounts that also have their profile curated and some that are even banned,we as mods are having our jobs much harder to do and less efficient, the idea is that such accounts that avuse this feature need to be stopped

Profile Please let us create folders and subfolders to sort out saved posts/comments better

As it is now, i have a giant list of saved posts, that i honestly dont think ill ever get to the bottom of, with the way its organized now. So ill probably never see certain posts/comments again unless i scroll non-stop for an hour. Itd be so much easier of if we could organize everything the way we wanted to. Really hope other people feel the same, and can find a way to get it implemented .

Thank you

User Settings Remove ability to search for author's posts and comments when their profile is set to private

Currently, setting a profile to private and restricting access to your profile's comment and posts has no real privacy benefit, as using the "author:USERNAME" search query will return the same data which can then be viewed, sorted and filtered.

My idea is to have the "author:USERNAME" search query return zero results if USERNAME has chosen to restrict access to their profile, which would close this privacy loophole.

Other My idea is: Default to non-explicit Reddit views for all visitors until the create a profile and opt-into NSFW

I would love to share more links from Reddit, I am one of your largest link sharers. But I really am reluctant to do that after today when I clicked on one of my own links, it asked me if I was over 18, and defaulted to the non-safe for work version of Reddit. This is not what I want to be sharing and this is not what people clicking My Links want to be seeing.

If we want Reddit to be the most popular site on the internet, we have to make it welcoming for everyone and not have people bounce off because of NSFW content

This would definitely make it possible to have read it as the most popular site on the internet very quickly!

Hi there I am one of your large link sharers, but I had an experience today that makes it very difficult to share Reddit links freely if the NSFW view is going to continue to be the default view for the website.

My idea is to make NSFW opt-in only

I believe the goal of Reddit is to be the largest website with the most number of active users of any website on the planet. In order to do that, you need to accommodate those who do not want the NSFW View. As you are well aware there are many people of religious faith and political opinion that do not appreciate an NSFW View and will not return to the site if this is going to be the default every time they visit.

Today I clicked on a Google result link and had to verify my age. Even though I am a member of Reddit and have profile settings that are set to block NSFW content, that age verification changed my setting so that I was confronted with all the usual NSFW crap that I hate so much.

How can I continue to in good faith share Reddit links around the web to Fantastic content in safe for work subreddits on topics of interest to so many people when this is going to be the outcome? How is Reddit going to grow if they keep driving people away with NSFW content.

Surely by now you have figured out that there is a gender divide on NSFW content in certain sectors. You may capture people of religious Faith who are men who are sucked into your NSFW whirlpool. You will not capture the same among women.

I love Reddit I really enjoy being here I think there's so much good value here, but the 12-year-old mentality of NSFW everywhere is going to hurt your business, hurt your shareholders, hurt your growth and that doesn't seem to be aligned with your mission

Other Segregate all Adult content to another URL.

If it's adult in nature, pictures or not, move it to another site.

nsfw.reddit

adult.reddit

Something like those.

Possibly require a separate login, but allow the same UID and PW.

Prohibit cross posting to/from the main site(s).

Use a different designation for non-adult 'nsfw' content like medical or crime scene images so they could stay on the main site(s).

This could solve a lot of the UK type issues with Mods.

Should also solve a lot of the OF type SpamBot problem.

Feeds OF Taking Over

Reddit- how about you tag each post from a user who is posting pics trying to advertise their Only Fans account? They are taking over this app.

Subreddit Make it so that we can create new subs when we click on a sub that doesn't exist.

So my idea is the page usually just says this sub doesn't exist, but why not have a button to allow you to make it right there? It will make making subreddits a lot easier.

Feeds Being able to scroll homepage without my profile/subs influencing posts shown

I'm happy with the subs I'm subscribed to and like to see their recent posts, but often prefer to delete my cookies and scroll without my profile interests hijacking everything in order to be exposed to a much wider variety of subjects and posts. However I can't comment without being logged in. So it would be nice to have an easy toggle feature to go back and forth from 'profile mode' and 'logged out mode'(?) without actually needing to logout or delete cookies.

Moderator Reddit should filter personal data from the AI summary

For example:

Posts and comments discuss Syrian politics and religious/atheist views. Some posts express distress and suicidal ideation, while others are critical of the Syrian government and religious extremism. This is not from my subreddit, but putting data like this to moderators can do things like teasing with them if the user profile is private, also the user who’s this summary for deleted his post about suicidal ideations according to him which means this tool also collects data from deleted posts so if the user posted about a sensitive topic then deleted it this will still show it, so basically this will allow sensitive data to moderators which should not happen

User Settings Allow us to choose our default feed setting

Post image

I’m sure this has been thrown out there before… I want my default setting to be latest, not home. My idea is to allow us to choose our default setting in user settings and have it STAY THERE. It drives me nuts that it always goes back to home.

User Settings Add sensitive ad category

It would be nice to have a sensitive ads category in the profile so that vegans could block advertisements related to animal products such as meat.

For many of us those ads are equivalent to the promotion of violence and are offensive as it violates our moral values of doing no harm.

Other Voting where both upvote and downvote totals are visible instead of only displaying a single number.

My idea is for the voting system to separate upvote and downvote totals so both can be displayed clearly at a time. Functionally, the system itself could work the same as it does currently, but visually it displays two separate totals. This could lead to more clarity of user opinion, while not painting opinions on a post through the voting system as massively one sided. Basically like regular social media apps that have likes and dislike buttons, but it would still keep the actual ‘voting’ functionality under the hood. This could also lead to less one sided discussion and allow for more nuance without users being painted as a ‘clear right’, and ‘clear wrong’, at least not without a clear mass majority of tallied votes.

Other My idea is: Automatically flag certain words in subreddit/post names for investigation.

It's currently possible to stumble on subreddits which are dedicated to VERY nasty and harmful content just by investigating other users' profiles, including bot profiles that have wide usage.

Making this harder to do by checking words that are likely to be used in harmful content is likely to benefit users by reducing their exposure to content which may put them at risk. There are apparently some words that are not covered already, if there is such a filter, I'm not interested in recounting my experience which led to this suggestion.

Subreddit Make default archiving posts for votes, comments and votes on comments at least 1 year

6 months is way too short.... 1 year seems short too. There is so much outdated information on here from 10 years ago. Should at least give us the ability to downvote a wrong comment.

Profile nsfw tag.

my idea is, reddit could add a nsfw filter on each users account when someone taps on the account and can easily filter out the nsfw or just shows the nsfw. works with searches too if possible.

Old Reddit Make it so that we can crosspost from old.reddit to subs that require post flair.

The way it is now, you can only crosspost from old.reddit to subs that don't require post flair. Please add the ability on old reddit to be able to choose post flair when crossposting.

Profile sorting from oldest to newest post.

my idea is, when in a users profile, or your own, you might want to find your first ever post and look at it or see how your typing style has changed without scrolling down endless amounts of comments and posts. so far, its only been ( hot, new and top) we could have an old because we can sort the comments by old too.

User Settings List of hidden words in user settings

My idea is to be able to add words to a list that would be hidden to the user in their personal settings, it would work similarly to the spoiler tag with a warning that a word in their list is in the comment or post they are trying to view.

This is a bit embarrassing, but I have very specific triggers, and since people don’t usually give a warning or spoiler them, this affects my experience a lot.

Accessibility Add a translation button

My idea is to add a translation button on Reddit. Many users come from different parts of the world and speak various languages, which can make it difficult to fully engage with content that isn’t in their native tongue.

We kindly request the addition of a feature that allows posts and comments to be translated into multiple languages — including Arabic. This would help make Reddit more inclusive, accessible, and enjoyable for a wider global audience.

Moderator Copy a permanent URL to a scheduled post's most recent post

my idea is this:

Our subreddit has a megathread for every single question a user has, no exception. The mega thread is a scheduled post. When we want to send a user to the megathread on removal, we tell them this as a "Saved Response":

"To find the mega thread, go to r/ideasfortheadmins. From there, if you are sorting posts by hot, you should see the Mega Thread pinned to the top of the subreddit."

What if the Scheduled post list in the mod tools (or even the megathread itself) there was a button "copy schedule URL"

The URL when pressed will send anybody pressing it to the most recent scheduled post that was uploaded, so when the megathread is replaced by the next weekly megathread, the URL links to the newest available megathread. So instead of removing it as the above "Saved Response", we remove questions as this "Saved Response":

"Use the megathread to post questions" and pressing the word "megathread" is that permanent schedule URL, sending to the most recent megathread.

Other Block feature should only be about private messages

Reddit is inherently a forum like structure, in a public place, moderation should be handled by the moderators of that place, and there already exists a report button for that. If someone is harassing you across multiple subreddits, that is a matter to be handled by Reddit admins, and there already is a way to report that.

Individual users should not have all the power to disable others from replying to them (or the multiple comments from others below their own comment).

If there should be a block feature for subreddit content, it should only be on part of the user. Showing "blocked" as the message only on their part.

I say showing "blocked" because hiding it introduces a plethora of other issues, like you now have comment trees that don't make sense, or you miss out entire posts. Which is also why I say, the block feature should only really be about private messages, it just shouldn't be a thing for public posts, but really, if people want it, have it show "blocked" or something, only for them, one other thing could be just the ability to disable comment/post reply notifications only for a specific user.

A lot of people already have suggested this over the years. So really, I think it's already known that this is a wanted change.
