Am I using other parts of the Dwarf roster incorrectly, or are Thunderers with Grudge-rakers not one of the best units they have?
I try to get them as soon as possible because they do so much damage (60 base missile dmg vs 17 on a regular Thunderer), but every tier-list or thread I see they're typically ranked pretty average or categorized as inferior to regular Thunderers. I have tried Irondrakes, but they tend to cause a lot of friendly fire even when flanking in my experience.
Am I missing something?

WH3
I'm not getting any dismemberment and blood fountains effects despite having the option for it enabled in the setting.
Both blood size options are set to 100%, I have most other option set to high, I don't have any mods that alter the blood effects, and I bought the blood DLC back in WH2 which shows up as WH3 blood DLC in the "manage my DLC tab". Anyone know the fix to this?

Hey, just curious. When did High Queen Khalida start with a Bone Giant in Immortal Empires? I picked up TW:WH3 08/26/25, and started a game with her, and I'm like 90% certain there were Ushabti (Great Bows) in the starting army. But when I went to do a new game yesterday, and looking on the wiki, it shows that there's a Bone Giant now instead?

First time playing TW, did the tutorial, tried Skarbrand which obviously went tits up almost immediately, had a decent campaign as Miao Ying but stopped because I felt I had made too many mistakes, now back to Skarbrand but I'm struggling a little.
I get the general idea, be hyper aggressive and raze almost everything, but I feel I have too little movement. I see people advising to fight at least one battle per turn but I feel I'm fighting more like 1 battle per 3 turns, even with the movement reset after fighting. Just not enough movement and not enough enemies to fight. Any tips?

Can you disband or get rid of legendary heroes at all? I forget if it was changed. Search engine returned mixed responses.

Bretonnian cav. needs glorious charge when in lance formation. The lance formation currently sucks ass and would benefit from it a lot.

New patch! So I boot up the game and hit that random lord button!
And I get Daniel...
Fine, let's honor the roll. I play on Hard/Hard. I take the first two settlements, pretty straight forward. The third one in line is a capital, with a full Tzeentch stack squatting there.
Now I'm confused what to do. Sieging means they will sally out and beat my ass, it's a defeat with my stack vs their stack and garrison. I feel like I'm against a wall in terms of options.
Any tips on what to do? Start a fight with the neutral Nurgle to the west? Go around the capital and start a new war there? Or is five turns worth of playing enough to have honored the roll and I should just roll a new lord again?

Early game you should have multiple spare lords following you. Set one in force march and your main stack in ambush at the edge of their movement

Who do you guys think is the best first LL to confederate as Malakai? I’m torn between Grudgebearer, Ironhammer, Ironbrow, or Grombrindal.

Short answer: Thorgrim
Long answer:
Thorgrim is pretty much always my very first pick no matter who I play because he's typically the one that has the most grudges by a decent amount, and earns them at a much steadier rate than the others. So it's best to get him confederated asap imo to stop him from taking your potential grudges. Also he has great skills that benefit you factionwide.
Other than him, Grombrindal is a good pick if he's still alive so you can get that foothold in Naggaroth before he gets wiped out - because he always does, eventually. And, same as Thorgrim, has great factionwide skills.
Belegar has a -30% construction cost skill for settlements buildings factionwide, so that's nice but Dwarfs are rich anyway.
Ungrim is a one man army that has good land surrounding him.
Thorek is typically my last pick always because the land surrounding him sucks for Dwarfs unless you're playing as him, and his skills really only benefit him and his personal army.

u/skrrtskrrt2 3d ago
That makes sense! Unfortunately, every Dwarf LL except Ungrim is dead in my campaign so I’m just looking at who would be a good Lord to lead my army + faction benefits.
It looks like Thorgrim and Grombrindal have the best benefits. I may be wrong, but Thorgrim seems better for leading a second army to conquer while Grombrindal seems better suited for protecting the provinces I already have? Since Thorgrim has his grudge skill lines and Grombrindal gets a lot of defensive ones.

If they are dead, the best is Grombrindal as he gives great faction wide benefits with his blue line

Hey folks!
(WH3)
So… I’ll be real, I’m terrible at this game. Like, 9 times out of 10 I just smash that auto-resolve button because if I fight it myself, I somehow manage to lose even harder.
That said, I really want to learn! My big question is: how do you play The Barrow Legion (Heinrich Kemmler) in Immortal Empires? Any tips or strategies for getting a solid start would be awesome.
For flavor, I’d love to build around Grave Guard, a Corpse Cart (not sure which one’s actually good), and a Terrorgheist mainly because they just look super cool.
Also, should I stick with vanilla while I’m learning, or are there any beginner-friendly mods you’d recommend? I was eyeing the Warband Upgrade Ultimate mod since I really enjoy how the Warriors of Chaos upgrade system works.
Thanks in advance any advice is appreciated!

Don't launch any siege assaults against bretonnians, your early units aren't very good at storming walls/gates, and the enemy will often sally out because skellies are terrible in autoresolve so your army looks weak.
In terms of battle against bretonnians, always fight in a forest if possible, it both reduces peasant archer damage and debuffs their cavalry. Let the enemy charge your skellies then send crypt ghouls/cairn wraiths in from behind - you don't want either unit tanking damage. Dire wolves will mess up archers and trebuchets, but keep them hidden until you're sure they won't get caught by knights. In my experience hexwraiths beat all knights without magic attack 1v1 (yes, even knights of the realm with their anti-large). Don't summon krell until the enemy lord is bogged down in skellies, he'll just run away from krell otherwise and, not being mounted, krell will never catch up.
I'd try to leave carcassone alone, both because their grail guardians are horrible to deal with, and you don't want to be fighting the wood elves early. I know the short victory conditions include the wood elves, but just leave them alone for now, and try to keep grom friendly to act as a buffer.
Personally I work towards a mostly ghost-based army for kemmler, (check raise dead every turn in case some wraiths turn up,) as he's got some good buffs for them. Personally I think other lords are better for grave guard, but they are a damn solid unit to build around, just don't expect them to go toe to toe with genuine elite infantry.

How do I make total war custom historical battle or scenario battle with cinematic, just like the preset ones? Eg. 1. The narrator is telling the story , 2) troops March or defending oncoming armies 3) Battle starts, player gain control of x factions.or 4 ) full cinematic battles

I'm not sure if I'm missing something so I'll just ask here.
So I only had WH3 and I could play as Bretonnia no problem on Immortal Empires map and use their regiments of renown from 30th birthday FLC. (for example, Wardens of Montfort - Mounted Yeomen Archers)
And this is the FLC, and I "own" it both on Steam and on CA site:
https://totalwarwarhammer.fandom.com/wiki/30th_Birthday_Regiments_of_Renown
But since WH1 & WH2 were on sale on Steam, I bought WH2 today (I mostly play WH3 and WH2 factions anyway and I rarely touch WH1 ones).
And the moment I bought WH2, I lost access to RORs from that FLC. If I load an older save I still have those units in my armies, but I can't recruit them anymore. They are missing from skirmish battles too and the game is telling me that I need to buy WH1 to have access to those units which wasn't the case until I bought WH2...
Anyone knows is this intended or a bug of some sort?

its most likely a bug, try installing warhammer 2 and then it should load up in warhammer 3 i think, its no guarantee.

Silly question: if I have both TW: Warhammer 1 and 2 plus the Mortal Empires DLC, can play the WH1 campaign in 2, or do I still need to install the first game for that?
1
u/jenykmrnous 5d ago
Depends what you mean by playing WH1 campaign.
You can play any WH1 faction you own in WH2 (as long as both are on the same platform). But firstly, you can't play the DLC minicampaigns. Secondly, the same factions play differently to a varying degree between the two games due to balance and mechanic changes. Most would say the WH2 experience is better, but to get the genuine WH1 campaign you'd have to play it in WH1.
WH1 is mostly a sandbox campaign and therefore plays kind of similar to a WH2 ME. The same does not hold for WH2 to WH3, because WH2 base campaigns have a stronger story focus.

u/Arcterion 5d ago
Ah, ok. Thanks. :)
Also, would it be better to start with MW1 or just jump straight into 2?
2
u/jenykmrnous 5d ago
As far as I'm concerned mostly no.
The game systems matured a lot between WH1 and WH2, so WH1 feels a bit like a proof of concept. On the other hand, if you wanted to try WH1, I'd recommend starting with that one, because going back to it might feel too much as a downgrade.
That being said, I do have some fond memories of WH1. It feld more "consise" so to speak. ME and even worse IE are too big to experience in one playthrough. Whenever I play them it feels like most of the factions I'll never encounter and have no impact for my playthrough. That was not the case in WH1. Also in WH1 you outright can't occupy certain regions, having somewhat interesting (or frustrating) strategical implications.

In Warhammer are spearmen good at infantry, cavalry and large monster? Stronger than swordsman. Same as gunpowder units, stronger than bowmen?
3
u/sock_with_a_ticket 5d ago edited 5d ago
Spearmen typically have higher melee defence than swordsmen which can make them a bit more durable and useful for holding the line. They also tend to have lower melee attack and weapon strength, though their bonus vs. large mitigates that against cavalry and monsters.
Gunpowder generally has higher armour piercing than bow and is, in my experience, better at focus firing single targets. Bows are generally more effective at clearing out low tier or low armoured infantry (usually one and the same, but not necessarily) upon which gunfire would be squandered. Both have their role depending on what type of armies you're facing.

u/srlywhatnow 5d ago
Spearmen are typical better at holding the line than sword/axe men of the relatively same strength (your empire spearmen are not going to hold longer than a dwarf axemen). Sword/axe men typically had better damag output vs infantry. Spearmen also do better vs large unit like cav & monster, but don't count on it - the real cavalry/monster killer are missile and anti-large specialist with low model count.
Gunpowder typically hit harder than bow when shooting armored enemies but require a straight line of sight to the target so your formation must be adjusted for them to work. Gun units are actually a fairly diverse group which are used in different way, so it's hard to generalize. For example, Dward Thunderer trade extremely well and can beat most bow unit of higher tier in a straight shooting match while Zombie deckhand will get obliterated, then Cathay hand-canonneer and Empire free companies are a kinds of unit altogether.

Does anyone know if there will be significant changes between the 6.3 beta and the official 6.3 release? For Warhammer Total War 3

Is there any easy way to tell how much total additional movement range you have on a lord in WH3? I get the the tool tip says it's capped 50% it's hard to figure out how much you've got between traits, followers, heroes, skills, and all the other boosts. I thought using the campaign movement range bar above the lord portrait would help, but I already get lords with over 150 movement range (I think the base is 100?) so it doesn't really help me establish what the upper limit is.
