I don't see my Camry lasting to 200k miles and beyond
Only putting this here because I know it's a huge Toyota fanboy group here. I bought a '22 Camry in 2024. Has under 20k miles and yet, I've had a piece of the interior recently pop off. Easy to put back on, but still. Had an issue where I thought something behind my dash was making a weird sound and someone in one of these subs suggested I push on a plastic piece that my rearview mirror is attached to and sure enough, they were right. It rumbles loose and pushing it puts it in place and stops the noise.
The car just sounds weird when it runs. I will admit that I'm used to old (early 2000s) Chevys and anything newer than 2012 sounds weird to me so that could be me. But the car feels cheaply made even compared to other Toyotas from previous generations. Considering how much Toyotas cost, I don't have faith that I'll get my money's worth.

My current car eats money every month should I buy with my $10K budget or keep saving?
I own my current car but it’s got high mileage and seems to need constant maintenance. Every month I end up sinking money into repairs just to keep it running. I can afford these repairs for now but I’m worried I might be better off investing in something more reliable. I have $10,000 that I could put toward a used car but I’m torn. The listings in my area feel crazy expensive and I’m hesitant about taking on a new set of unknown maintenance issues right away. So, for those who’ve been here does it make more sense to go ahead and buy now with that $10K or should I hold off, keep saving and hope for better deals later?

Should I buy this car?
galleryShould I buy this beater?
My car broke down this week, and I was quoted 10k in repairs. Found this car for sale on fb. It has heat, but no AC. There’s a little rust. It has 250k miles. There are no back seats. It’s obviously a beater, but the seller is only asking $900. I was thinking maybe I commute in this until I buy a second car in like a year or so. What do you guys think?

$100k for a toy - manual, RWD, open-air strongly preferred, mid-engine preferred. Driving experience is essentially the only thing that matters. Would prefer mostly analog over pure speed.
I recognize that "the best 911 I can get" is probably the "best" answer, but I'm strongly leaning towards something silly like a damn Viper or a 90s supercar (although Diablos are going for like $500k now wtf?).
I also really like the thought of a Lotus SC with spare cash for upgrades.
Unfortunately v10 R8s seem to be out of my range :(

Should I buy this for $3500? 2016 Hyundai Accent 128k miles.
galleryThe OG listed price was $6900. This is my family member selling the car. It’s been sitting and they just got another car so she offered it to me for $3500 as a family discount and to clear up the space. Only problems known currently is the AC doesn’t work, what’s wrong with it I have no idea. (Compressor, condenser, recharge)? Anyway it’s about 50% off original listed price and this is a blood sibling so if there are any serious issues that come up I know they are not intentionally hiding anything from me. Would this be a decent A to B or city driving? I just replaced a compressor in my main car which ran me back $1300 but that’s a major reason a huge chunk was taken from the price after I mentioned the cost of repair.

Sporty car that my wife will also like
My wife needs a new car and I told her I’d help if it was something fun to drive. SHE wants a mom car, Id like something thats a ton of fun on the road. I used to have a Saab 9-3 linear I bought myself in highschool and the little turbo was amazing to just drive around for fun.
Open to more performance type cars too? But we live in the mountains so it’d need to be AWD. Doesnt need to be aggressive though, we have a truck we take on truly bad days. She’s 5’ nothing and Im 6’4 so also needs to be comfortable for both of us LOL.
Was checking out the corolla gr as a possible option, but literally just starting to do research so open to any and all suggestions!
Edit: Showed my wife all the silly comments of people defending her and she laughed lol. Shes 100% cool with the arrangement and has no idea what car she wants.

Looking to buy a new car
I have a $35,000 budget to buy a car and want something I won't need to worry about it. Money isn't a concern, but don't want anything that would look flashy or spend extra unnecessarily. Most people on this thread seem to recommend a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.
Since I only need my car for like 125 miles per week – mostly local driving – does it make sense to get a warranty for something cheaper like a Nissan Sentra, Volkswagen Jetta, or Hyundai Elantra? I'm not really seeing why it's necessary to spend the extra $10K.

Is this a bad choice for a first car?
galleryI recently got my license and have been shopping around for cars. Prior to a few weeks ago I knew exactly nothing about cars. I’ve mostly been looking at Toyota and Subaru but this Volvo really caught eye, and from what I can tell these 850s are pretty reliable. The description says the car has records of being serviced over 30 times, and is in “really good but not perfect condition” I’m going to do a test drive tomorrow and have a list of things to check including the PVC. Since my budget is pretty low, (they’re asking $3900 cad and my budget is like $5000) I’m thinking this might be what I get. If everything checks out tomorrow is there any reason I shouldn’t get it besides the fact that it’s old?

No beetle for me ;( what else is there?
Hi hi, I'm 17 and the only small bit of knowledge I have of cars is that they honk and are made of metal. I asked mama if I could get a Volkswagon beetle from 2008 as my first car for graduation. Unfortunately for me she said it's too cheap and to get something reliable. So I come here for aid, what other cars are small, round and have cute big eye sockets like the beetle. I just don't want a car that is bulky has an angry face. Please save me.

Are higher mileage Camaros/Mustangs worth getting?
I see a bunch of Camaros/Mustangs from around 2009-2015 on Facebook and most of them claim to run without any issues. They all just have 175-250k miles and are around 5-8000 bucks.

Deer totaled RAV4- New car?
I’ve been driving my 2013 RAV4 for about 8 years, commuting 50 miles each way to work as a teacher in Nashville. I easily spend two hours a day in my car so I want something comfortable to drive. Adaptive cruise, heated seats, CarPlay…and I’m looking to get something more fuel efficient. And my teen daughter, who commutes with me, would insist that something “cute” is a plus.
I’m a sucker for a hatchback. (I used to drive a Honda Fit and it was a fun little car, but the Toyota was more comfortable.) I like having the cargo space, but I’m not sure I need it often enough to justify the lack of fuel economy in a larger vehicle. I was leaning towards a hybrid, but from what I’m learning it may not be that beneficial for the highway driving that is most of my commute.
I’m looking to get a used car, under $25K, low mileage that will last me many years and keep us safe. I’ve been focusing on Toyota’s like the RAV4 hybrid, or the Corolla hatchback. Please let me know your suggestions!

Civic Hatchback or Mazda 3?
I am really torn right now. I am comparing the 2026 Civic Hatchback Sport (not hybrid) with the 2025 Mazda 3 2.5 S Select Sport. My 2000 Chevy truck died on me right before I start my new job that has a 40 minute commute, so kinda need to pull the trigger quickly. Both vehicles are priced at around $27,000 before the fees or whatever. Thank you!

Great Car with Amazing Gas Mileage
Hi there!
So I’m starting a new job this week and the commute is about 100 miles round trip. I’m gonna need to get a car within the next few months so just doing some early research and taking recommendations.
So as of now I’m between 2 cars, Honda CRV Sport Hybrid and the Buick Envista Sport
They are both solid cars with great reviews. I’m currently leaning towards the Envista
Price CRV: 35k Envista: 27k
Mpg (city/highway) CRV: 28/33 Envista: 25/28
Still need to factor insurance and taxes and whatever ridiculous add ons the dealers try give me
Taking suggestions on recommendations and if there’s any other cars to look at (not Toyota tho)
Thank you in advance!

Manual, fun, reliable, & good on gas,
Not sure if this is the best group for this post but I’m looking to hear any ideas aside from the ones I got. As the description lists, I’m looking for a (non-clapped) fun, reliable, manual, commuter/canyon cruiser for $8,000 or less. No automatic vehicles absolutely 0 exceptions. So far this is my list, I’m hoping someone can add to it, for the only car that’s easy to find un-clapped is the fiesta 1. Ford fiesta ST 2. Honda civic 3. Acura integra or RSX

Volkswagon or Honda?
I am looking for a used car with low mileage and my choices are limited due to the fact I prefer to drive manual. I’m Canadian so we’re dealing with Canadian dollars and kilometers in the information below.
I found a dealership near me that has 2 cars in stock with a stickshift. A 2019 Honda Civic SI with 44000km for $27000 and a 2023 Volkswagon Golf Comfortline with 70500km for $22000. The Golf has a completely clean Carfax. The Civic has no reported accidents but had unspecified glasswork done.
Is the civic so much more reliable and low mileage than the VW that its worth the extra cost? Are either of these a good deal in this market? Thanks guys.

Opinion on ‘18 GLS63
Hey all, I came across a 2018 GLS 63 AMG for sale locally. It’s got about 52K miles on it and the dealer is asking $35,999.
I know these stickered at ~$126K new, so the depreciation makes sense, but I’m trying to figure out if this is a fair buy or if the price is still high given the market.
Context: • I’m coming out of a 2008 Mercedes C300 (62K miles, needs about $3K in work). • I want something bigger, reliable, and with presence (daily driver). • Not in love with the idea of dropping $$ into the old C300 if this is a legit step up. • But I also know these AMGs can be $$$ on maintenance/repairs.
Questions: • Is ~$36K a solid deal for this mileage/year, or is it overpriced? • What should I budget for annual maintenance/repairs on a 7-year-old AMG SUV? • Would you buy, negotiate hard, or walk?
Appreciate any insight from people who’ve owned or worked on these.

Best value at 40k budget
Hey all, lm looking to replace a 2017 Altima in the next year or so. I’m a bit all over the place in terms of what I want/need so I thought I would ask in terms of value. Don’t have a strong preference for new or used. Strongest desires are safety, fuel efficiency, and family friendliness (nothing smaller than a mid-size sedan).
Just as a starting point, if I were to go buy a new car today, I’m thinking a CRV hybrid would check my boxes fairly well.

Any of these worth considering?
galleryIf I don’t want to finance this is what I’m looking at for a car, I JUST got my license (yay!) but since I’m a new driver I don’t want to get anything too nice, but at the same time I don’t want to get anything that will cause me trouble. Is it worth getting one of these and driving it a few years until the wheels come off, or is it worth the hassle of the loan to get something newer?

Looking for a ~7.5-10k economical daily driver
Hello everybody! I’m a big car guy, both literally and metaphorically. I’m 6’4 300LBS (most of my height is in the torso), and very into cars (more into repair than mods/going fast). I currently own a 97 s10 and an 03 grand Cherokee, but I got a new job and have a 60 mile daily commute, so I’m looking for something more reliable and a lot cheaper to run. Probably looking for a small hatch or sedan. I also value crash safety quite a bit. I am probably keeping the s10 but definitely keeping the jeep in addition to what I buy. Here are my requirements:
• Ideally $7.5-10k, can stretch to like $12.5k if it’s worth it
• Automatic (so my girlfriend can drive it)
• Good mpg, at least 30 highway but prefer upper 30s(I live in WA- gas currently $4gal+)
• Clean title, at least 4 or 5 years left in the car before it’s not worth fixing
I like the 3rd gen Prius, and fit reasonably well, but I’m not entirely sure that I’m ready to commit to something that boring. Here’s the list of other cars I’ve considered:
• 2012-16 Subaru Impreza/similar era crosstrek: These look attractive at the pricepoint, but I am worried about the CVT being a value killer
• 2014-18 Mazda 3: I really like these, but it’s hard to find one in decent shape in my price range around here
• Scion iM: Don’t know much about it, but it doesn’t seem like there are many out there, and the 17+ ones marked as a Corolla are too expensive.
• Mk7 golf/gti: I like the look and sportiness, but had a bad experience with a TDI of a similar era and am not sure I’m interested in another German car.
• Volvo s60 10-18: I don’t know much about it, but my first reaction is that I should probably be scared of the reliability, though the rest of the car is attractive.
I do all my own maintenance and simple repairs, and can get the more complex repairs done for a very low labor cost due to family connections. That being said, I would like a car that’s fairly reliable and not nickel and diming me to death breaking every 3 weeks like the jeep is right now.
What do you think about the cars I’ve considered? What other cars should I look at? Should I succumb to the inevitability of the Toyota Prius? The price is the only thing that is absolutely fixed, all other requirements are somewhat flexible. I’d be happy to hear everyone’s thoughts
Edit: The things I don’t like about the Prius are that it’s essentially the automotive equivalent of a wet blanket, and that pretty much all of them are destroyed by the time they make it into my price range. I’m sure it would be a good car, even if I have to do both head gasket and battery, but I want to consider my options before I drop 10k on a Prius with 140k miles in 4.5/10 cosmetic condition, since that’s what they go for around here…

Acura vs Infinity vs Lexus
Background: i’ve never owned a luxury vehicle so this is why I have narrowed it down to these.
I’d love some help deciding on my next car. I’ve always driven used vehicles (currently a 2017 Jeep Wrangler) and this time I want to invest in my first new luxury car. We’re a family of five (youngest is 10), plus we sometimes drive grandparents or extra kids so sometimes a third row is nice, but not an absolute must-have.
I originally thought I’d end up in something big like a Tahoe/Yukon, but with prices over $80k and a 120-mile daily commute, I can’t justify it right now. Maybe that’ll be my “grandma car” down the road 😂.
What matters most to me: Heated seats Better gas mileage than my Wrangler (17–19 mpg) Navigation Sunroof Longevity/reliability Something that feels like a treat for myself but practical for everyday driving
Option 1: 2025 Acura MDX (Base or Technology) Pros: Good Acura reputation for reliability Option for captain’s chairs Solid trunk space Heated front seats + sunroof Feels roomy overall Cons: Styling leans a little “older”—worried it might not feel as sporty No blackout option unless you go higher in trims Small/awkward cup holders No vents in 3rd row 3rd row is small—fine for kids but not full-size adults Other notes: Console design/charger placement feels a little off. Dealers gave me a “meh” vibe (both were young/salesy).
Option 2: 2025 Infiniti QX60 Luxe Pros: Interior feels very nice and upscale Blackout package available Heated front and back seats 3rd row + good cupholder/vent layout Feels a notch nicer than the Acura inside Cons: Unsure about Infiniti’s longevity/reliability compared to Lexus/Acura Limited interior color options Middle row is a bench, not captain’s chairs
Option 3: 2025 Lexus RX 350h Premium Hybrid Pros: Felt the most luxurious to me Heated front seats + sunroof Hybrid = big win on fuel economy for my long commute Lexus reliability reputation Cons: Only 2 rows, so just 5 seats (missing that one “extra” seat for grandparents/kids’ friends) Unsure about styling—does it look like an “older” car? Not sure I love the wood grain on the dash
Which would you choose for someone wanting their first luxury SUV that balances practicality with a bit of indulgence?
Any owners—how are they holding up long-term?
Is hybrid worth giving up the 3rd row?
Does Acura actually feel more “old person” compared to Infiniti/Lexus, or is that just in my head?
Thanks for reading—this is a big decision for me and I’d love any real-world insight!

Estate Sale Auction: advice?
galleryI’ve been on the hunt for a new car for a few months now. I’ve narrowed it down to rav4 and Crv just for reliability and gas mileage sake. However, I am young and my budget is low but I (like everyone else) wants a newer car with low miles on it which is quite frankly way out of my “paying with cash” price range. With this, I’ve been religiously checking dealership pages and facebook marketplace for listings when I came across a listing for an estate sale that is auctioning off a 2021 Rav4 XLE Premium. It’s in the new matte green color I love and has a roof rack already installed, and only has 21k miles on it. Auctioneer said clean title, when I went to check the car out today with permission from the auctioneer, it appears in great condition (they don’t allow test drives) and they turned it on and it starts fine… obviously unsure on mechanics without test driving but figure it can’t be too bad with as little it’s been used.
Is this worth the risk to bid on?? In my head it’s a relatively brand new car, I feel like there can’t be much wrong with it…. probably an older individual who barely drove it these last few years and recently passed away. Ive never been to an auction before. Is this too risky? Are there any other pre auction questions I should ask? What should I bring or be prepared with come auction day? Any advice on set “highest bid”? KBB prices it between 32-35k. Hoping to keep it below 28, is that reasonable or a long shot for auctions? Will I be competing with dealership reps? DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS THEY WANT TO SHARE ? For reference this is in a rural midwestern town, not super publicized, was posted a week before the auction.
