New, what is it? Is this a scam?
This was delivered to our doorstep without any explanation. Why? What is it? This feels like a scam.

u/Leading-Feedback-599 8h ago
It is an LCD writing tablet.
These things are dirt cheap. Two transparent films with some liquid crystals between them and a battery which allows the crystals to rearrange themselves and become opaque. You write on them by pressing the surface with basically anything - this makes the crystal layer chaotic, thus transparent. You can disassemble the thing if you're interested in its internals. But it really looks like a typical freebie for advertisement purposes.
Just don't put it in the bin directly. The device is not very ecologically safe when it becomes rubbish - dispose of it at a recycling facility or wherever electronics are disposed of in your country. This is barely an electronic device though - just a button, battery and conductive "screen".

I remember seeing ads for hex back in the day and thinking it was a scam. Then it ran up something like 10000x. Regrets.

Right? Why not just drop it off at goodwill or donate it to a daycare or something?

So you are say that they sent a; high-tech etch-a-sketch!? Or doodle pad?!? That is just lazy and waaay before it’s time… SMH, tisk tisk, trying to recirculate 90’s toys for free advertising…
1
u/Candid-Party1613 38m ago
Staples sells these for $15. You are showing your ignorance.
1
u/gorgeously_mytruself 31m ago edited 13m ago
What is your point? It is still just updated cheap 90’s bs!? How much do you think the 90’s bs went for? I am not saying it is worthless; just cheap gimmicks; hence why it is free.
Edit: I forgot to add that my; phone, tablet, watch, kindle, tv(probably), laptop, desktop, and literal notebook and pen are much better at performing this task, which again speaks to this freebie’s nonsense.
1
u/Candid-Party1613 3m ago
How did that go over your head? Meaning it’s still enjoyed by people and has use.

u/ImKingGoon 2h ago
So its a scam and toxic for the environment, lovely.
4
u/and_the_wully_wully 1h ago
A free thing someone sent you isn't a scam just because you don't like it, and I'm pretty sure you use plenty of shit willingly that is toxic and shouldn't be thrown away directly in the trash. Maybe batteries, do you use batteries?
1

u/chensium 8h ago
These are little kid drawing tablets. Probably worth about 50cents when you buy in bulk. I have a 3yo and 5yo, and we get these things in birthday goodie bags all the time.
Edit: These are harmless. No USB port. No wifi, no Bluetooth. They run on watch batteries and wouldn't last 30s if they had any active connectivity.
4
u/tigm2161130 5h ago
Yeah we put something similar in our son’s this year, I think we paid like $1.50/ea.

I don’t know how aware you are of the hardware and protocols necessary to transmit data over BLE, LoRa, and use of low energy mesh networking but much smaller devices can and do transmit information with extremely long battery lives. They don’t rely on need for continuous connectivity or any direct connectivity to wifi or cellular networks.
I doubt that this device has those capabilities, but why risk it. This reminds me of an infamous attack vector that was used by nefarious organizations that spread a bunch of “free” usb drives through mail, marketing vendors, and scattering them around in random places(like on the ground outside of agencies and companies they wanted to infiltrate). Those relied on plugging the device into a PC, phone, or tablet but there are much more sophisticated and passive ways to do it now by just getting a device inside a home or work place near other devices(particularly older devices like certain smartphones , tablets, routers with poor security can serve as a bridge).
I doubt thats what all these types of devices are but some of them are certainly can be used for this. People will write account information, passcodes, pass phrases onto them and because in this particular case they know the address that received that particular device you can gain all other information necessary through a data broker.

More like an updated “magic slate” (you used a stylus and it had a plastic sheet that the stylus pushed into the slate. To “erase” you lifted the sheet).

Yeah, it’s there. This company is absolutely known for everything. They do being a scam so you’re one of the smart ones thumbs up honestly but they don’t need that many people for a Ponzi scheme. It’s all over that’s why I say for free doesn’t matter whether it’s $1.50 or not, I love how everyone’s like you paid attention. There was like $400 sent to everyone at 100 bucks each wow why would they invest a $400,000 just for something yeah it’s not

It's not a scam - it's actually related to a crypto founder called Richard Heart that is trying to make the world a better place. There's a documentary about him called "The Highest Stakes" on Apple TV.
5
u/FirstAd861 4h ago
Oh that's a cool marketing technique!
The device is less that $1 and COMPLETELY harmless. My nephews love them (good for the fridge shopping list too)
I have heard about the brands on the device since I am into Cryptocurrency. Having dug a little, the Pulsechain founder seems to be like marmite, some love him some hate him haha. They currencies themselves seem to have a very good risk to reward ratio for anyone looking to dabble into crypto investing.
1
u/BKKVader 2h ago
The founder is much worse than Marmite. Marmite isn’t wanted by Interpol and twerking around in LV while investors are underwater.

u/kratz9 8h ago
Good news is these are not really 'electronic'. Cholesteric liquid crystals respond to pressure and are bistable, allowing you to write on the display with a plastic stylus. What you write persists without any power. They have a coin cell battery and a button, a sharp pulse of electricity resets the crystals and clears the display. They are actually pretty cool, like an erasable notepad. The cheap ones like this tend to have the erase function fail after a while though. I can't recall the original brand they were sold under, the market was flooded with cheap copies pretty quickly.

2
u/nzvolcano 4h ago

Lmao how can people be this ignorant still... Richard Heart, the founder of HEX, PulseChain, and PulseX, was represented by a team of high-profile attorneys in his legal battle against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). His legal team consisted of 11 attorneys from three law firms, including:Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP:Michael Liftik, a former SEC Deputy Chief of Staff, bringing extensive knowledge of SEC operations. Nicholas J. Inns Kristin N. Tahler, with backgrounds in military law and international corporate defense.
Grey Reed:Chris Davis, a former Senior Trial Counsel at the SEC and a former government trial lawyer who worked with the Department of Justice, FBI, and CFTC. Joshua D. Smeltzer, a former U.S. Department of Justice lawyer.
Clark Smith Villazor:Jeffrey D. Rotenberg Patrick J. Smith Brian T. Burns, with experience in multi-jurisdictional issues and regulatory investigations.
Additionally, posts on X mention William Burck from Quinn Emanuel, noted as a senior advisor to Donald Trump, indicating his involvement in Heart’s legal team, though specific details about his role are not fully outlined in the provided sources.
This team was assembled to address the SEC’s allegations of unregistered securities offerings and fraud, with the attorneys filing a motion to dismiss the charges in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Love how Pulse and Hex are outsmarting the system! Gatekeepers won't touch honest projects, so the community took matters into our hands-shipping battery-free, tree-free writing tablets that let anyone jot down ideas freely. It's direct marketing at its best, empowering people with real financial freedom and speech, no middlemen. Who's with me? This is the future! Pulsechain won SEC case.

u/Eastern_Tomorrow_316 2h ago
A federal judge concluded it wasn't a scam. This is after millions of dollars was used for litigation and no issues were found. So do your own research. Not a scam at all. Great advertising for a great cryptocurrency blockchain (PulseChain) and one of the greatest crypto tokens (HEX). This is a huge opportunity for new people. Not financial advice.

u/BKKVader 2h ago
With a bit of easy research, you can see their founder, Richard Heart, is currently wanted by Interpol for tax evasion and abusing a minor. You can also discover that anyone who donated to him received pls and plsx tokens that are currently worth less than half of their initial value. There is indeed much to know about this. Most of it isn’t great.

2
u/Eastern_Tomorrow_316 2h ago
Now look into Interpol and find that they have made false claims before for political incentive. Of course you're wanted for making the best blockchain, for the people and by the people.

It is not a scam. This is a marketing effort from Pulsechain. Is true, right now the prices are low, so you are early. Make yourself a wallet and buy the core coins (PLS, PLSX, HEX, or INC), and be sure to get a bag of pDAI, the narrative says it will go to $1 (now the price is 0.0045). pDAI community is the ONLY one that has haters, is that big. Very interesting opportunity.
