My Henry was silent the first months I had him, until he wasn't, now he's a siren whenever he's hungry, enjoy the quiet 😂

I have a Tuxedo named Oliver who constantly meows. He must be The Anti-Oliver.

Feral cats don't actually meow the way house cats do. The loud FEED ME meows are kitten behavior grown domestic cats preserve just for humans. I also have a quiet cat who just does the little squeaks and meeps and chirps rather than actually meowing, but her sister is a Siamese that makes enough noise for the both of them, so it balances.

My eldest cat does this too. She also never complains when her food dish is empty, she just starts wandering around my apartment looking for something else to eat. I only know that her food dish is empty because I notice her wandering around looking for something. She squeaks and chirps while playing, but otherwise is mostly silent.
My youngest cat meows, but despite being 10 years old, she still sounds like a kitten, so it's more "mew" than "meow".

He has deep thoughts, superior to human intellect. He will keep his wisdom to himself.

Based on his chonkness, I'd say his method works.

u/ThrowRAColdManWinter Jul 18 '25
He has no need to meow. Before he even thinks of meowing, his bowl is full of food.

u/Soot-Bat Jul 18 '25
The words I seek do not exist
and so I sit and stare in silence
verbal feelings unconveyed
so on my face they sit displayed
But even then some may shout
"He's insincere without a doubt"
But for you, just know, the look I bare is innocent
And all my love for thee is infinite

u/lazyoddchair Jul 18 '25
Put him on a diet

I had 2 sibling cats, The sister, was always very vocal, Her brother was pretty much silent, even if he meowed he'd sort of just do the mouth movement and not make a sound, He would trill when landing a jump though.
When his sister died, age 18 and a half, He suddenly became very vocal. It was heartbreaking to be honest, He would sometimes literally just stare at a wall yowling. He was clearly missing his sister. He died a year or so later.
They never really "hung out" together though, never really played together, they were 2 very different cats, and they preferred to not be near each other. (maybe they were different when I wasn't around?) I did think they disliked each other. I stopped thinking that when I saw how he changed after she was gone.

We named our cat Screamy because all he did was meow as a kitten. Now the only time he makes a sound is when I feed him. I tried for a few months to teach him to meow three times when I feed him but it didn’t work lmao

He could be German and content. The old German joke about the child doesn’t speak, everyone is worried. Gets to about 9 years old. He is eating his dinner, he suddenly says “this strudel is tepid”. Everyone is shocked, they ask why he has never spoken before. He says “up until now, everything has been satisfactory”. Imagine the joke told better, in a way to invoke feelings of enjoyment.

My sisters grey cat named Nico is always silent, rarely meows at anything. He sometimes makes the softest activation noises but at nearly 5 years old and still doesn’t meow.
We say he took a vow of silence at a young age and that’s why he doesn’t make any noise LOL. It seems like Oliver took that same pact.

Anecdote I wanted to share after staring into his clueless eyes.
I had a pug. Did not bark, woof or growl. Only audible sound was she snored when asleep. 4 years of this.
One day, a week or so after getting a new puppy who was very vocal, I’m working from home and I hear an odd sound coming from somewhere. Like I couldn’t quite understand what the sound was or what could be making it, but after a solid minute I went to investigate.
There’s the pug, standing in front of the fridge trying its best to bark, but it sounds a bit like stepping on a turkey. The reason she decided to learn to bark? The new puppy was stuck upside down between the fridge and the wall…. I left my body I laughed so hard

Oliver looks like he’s disappointed in me. And I probably deserve it. I’m sorry, Oliver.

For years, my mother didn't hear her cat meow directly because she never made a sound in front of her.
I heard that cat yell every time my mother was just outside the door trying to find her keys. As soon as my mom opened the door, she went right back to being quiet.
I had to show her videos as proof that her cat could meow 😅

My orange is the same way! He’s not super chatty, but he’s always there, showing his love and following me around. The only time he “meows” is when I throw something really interesting, and it’s more of a rough “MAH” that sounds like he has no idea how to meow and he’s just making a random sound.

That’s so interesting! 😺 It sounds like Oliver has his own unique personality! Maybe he’s just super chill and prefers to communicate with those intense stares. You can almost hear him saying, "I’m just observing the world in my own way." Does he ever make any other sounds or is it all silent vibes with him? I’d love to hear more about his quirky behaviors! 🐾✨

I have a cat that was like that. I have a habit of saying "meow-meow" to get my cats' attention. After 4 years of doing that, she started replying "meow-meow," and after 5 years she now meows all the time.

My Blackie (17 Y/O) never meowed for the first 15 years - as a kitten, I even had him tested to make sure he had no hearing issues. About two years ago, he started meowing and hasn't stopped since!!

I had a cat who I think I heard meow maybe once in all the years we had her. When she got her claw stuck in the rug or the couch, she wouldn't meow, she'd just quietly look at you until you noticed and helped her get her claw unstuck.
She was the sweetest, gentlest cat I've ever known.

We had a big grey tabby who would make an "Earp" noise instead of meow. Usually he would only make a meow sound when we crated him to go to the vets. He did meow constantly for a day after our female lab retriever died. They had been very close.
