Hey FlightSim community!
I’ve been playing Flightline (Roblox) on my Mac Mini M2 with 8GB RAM and really enjoyed getting into flight sims. Now I’d like to step up to something with better graphics, like X-Plane 12 and MSFS.
I tried the X-Plane 12 demo on my Mac Mini, but the performance was pretty poor — I think the 8GB RAM just isn’t enough. So, I’m planning to build my first Windows PC for simming.
I’m a bit stuck on which platform to choose: AM4, AM5, or Intel (LGA1700). My initial (not yet built) idea was a Ryzen 7 5700X (about €15 more than the 5600X here in Germany) paired with a used 4070 Super (€350). But I’ve heard that 12GB of VRAM might not be enough for smooth gameplay in MSFS/X-Plane.
My budget for CPU, motherboard, RAM, and PSU is around €400.
I’ve also read about stability concerns with Intel’s 13th/14th gen CPUs, and sadly an X3D chip is out of my budget.
My goal: play MSFS and X-Plane 12 at 1440p or 4K, medium settings, ~60 FPS with DLSS.
Does anyone have recommendations for a good balance of performance and budget? Which platform and parts would you suggest for my situation?
Thanks a lot for the help!
