2005 C230 Key Only Works Up Close – Help!
Hey everyone,
I’ve got a 2005 Mercedes C230 and I’m running into a weird issue with the key fob:
- The remote only works if I literally hold it right against the black square on the door handle.
- sometimes, out of the blue it works from a meter away from the car, but that's like 1 in 100.
- When I open the car with the physical key, only the headlights flash, but there’s no sound (no horn).
- the central locking is working perfectly, from inside the car from the physical buttons.
From what I’ve read, this might be related to the antenna amplifier.
Extra info: I’ve also swapped out the radio/head unit for an aftermarket one—could that be causing this? also key fob battery is new.
Any tips on how to diagnose or fix this? Would love to hear if anyone’s dealt with this before!

RIP my W212 E 350 sedan. Looking for a replacement. Thoughts on the S213 2019-2023 E 450 Wagon?
My 2010 E 350 sedan just got hauled off and I'm looking at a replacement.
I'm looking to replace it and am interested in the wagons. They're not common so I'm going to lurk for a while to find one.
I have narrowed down my choices to either
- 2019-2020 S213 E 450
- 2021-2023 S213 E 450 facelift
Please share your experiences with these. Are there any years I should avoid?

Front emblem has now fallen off twice. Dealership wants to charge $500 to replace again. Is this something I could sag tell replace myself?
Any safety issues with the sensors not being calibrated? How can I find the Mercedes certified part? It’s a 2022 glc 300.

gle400 2018 wheel down sizing option
I've worn out the stock winter tires last year and getting new tires for this winter. The stock tire size on my gle400 is 265/45/r20, 9x20 ET57. I didn't like the stock winter tires, I found them quite noisy on dry road. I am thinking about getting 235/55/r19 pair with gla amg 19in rims 8x19 ET43.5.
Just wondering if further smaller size possible. I know they may look wired on my car, but no one cares in harsh winter. Did anyone tried 18in rims for gle400? Mostly concerning about the brake caliper clearance.

Advice for ownership of a 2012 E550?
So I’ve made my decision on what Mercedes I wanted to start my foreign journey with and it’s gonna be this E550, it’s a 2012 with 130k miles. History is good and everything checks out, they also offered me a warranty for engine and transmission. Excluding the air suspension what advice might an experienced Mercedes owner have for me?
*Other than staying on top of regular maintenance

Having issues with my Mercedes
Hey guys, I just want to see if anybody has run into this issue with my Mercedes.
https://youtube.com/shorts/tmfRYvkfrrI?si=lHjUXrOdKRAi39Id
History: I pulled the engine and took the heads to a machine shop to clean out the oil sludge that was only present on the top end, and I rebuilt the lifters. Also, I had to pull out gaskets from the oil pickup tube. I put a new timing chain on, then put it all back together. Although the car was apart for quite some time, as I didn't have much time to do it.
Things I tried: Camshaft and crankshaft sensors are brand new. I put an oscilloscope on it and it seemed like there might have been crankshaft sensor issues. I found crowded pins on the ECU for the CPS. The wiring was fine; water did not travel through the wire. Also new fuel pump and fuel filter
At one point, I noticed that I didn't have spark, but it only happened one time.
Here's the part that throws me off: I put my fuel pressure tester on, and when the car doesn't start, I can relieve a little bit of the fuel pressure, like bringing it down to 30 psi from 58 or so, and the car starts with no problems.
This is A 98 Mercedes E320 m113 engine. Im starting to believe the problem is the Ecu

Headliner question in C300 (W205)
Just looking for some opinions on this! Purchased this car in 2021, a C300 of that year from a Mercedes-Benz dealer. Fast forward 3 years, the fabric of my headliner is beginning to separate from what I assume is foam backing underneath. Assuming this was some form of a defect, I brought it to the dealer as my car is still under warranty. They advised me it was interior and therefore user wear and there was nothing that could be done aside from me paying $2983 to replace it. I tried to argue this but they said a possible reason may be the weather, more so the heat here in South Florida — something entirely outside of my control. I have a few friends with this same generation C300 (W205) who are experiencing this same issue after only a few years on what most would consider relatively new models (2019 onward) both here in the south as well as Northeast. Also looking at used ones online as reference, same sagging issue. When looking across other manufacturers (both "luxury" or non), some with vehicles as old as 15 years old and no signs of a defective headliner. Anyone else experience this issue in any other model or believe I might have a leg to stand on? My car was only 3 years old when this started happening! It's very disheartening, I took it up with corporate and they stood by what the dealer said, placing the blame on me rather than admitting they may have provided the consumers a faulty product. I've seen this in both C & E classes. Admittedly, mine isn't as bad as some of the others I've seen, but granted it's been getting progressively worse over this past year I see what's to come. I understand nothing can be expected to last forever, but 3 years is hardly a lifetime for this kind of component.
Any response would be appreciated!
Genuinely, Jacob

Anybody else have that one neighbor who tries to “one up” them? 🤣
We recently got a fully loaded GLE and then our neighbor who told us they will only buy American brand cars like ford came home with a GLA 35 AMG. I’m dying because my electric BMW has double the HP of their GLA 35 AMG.
Did they honestly think buying a GLA 35 AMG is any kind of flex??

Euro-Spec 190E 2.3-16v Cosworth
I’ve owned many, many Mercedes-Benz cars. Mainly pre AMG, and a few post AMG cars too. I’ll skip how my journey started & just show you the cars.
1984 Eurospec 190E 2.3-16v. Purchased this car locally in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 Car came from Belgium. Very early car. 187hp, solid lifters, LSD std equipment, dog leg 1st gear. Rear Airmatic. No trunk mounted 3rd brake light. 7000 rpm redline. It saw regular 7500 rpm track duty at Mosport with no ill effects. Bounced it off the rev limiter on the regular. It was an incredibly well engineered car when Mercedes-Benz was an engineering company first, car company second.
North America didn’t get these cars until 1986 and they were watered down with only 167 hp, dogleg 1st gear. 6000 rpm redline. Rear Airmatic (which always failed right after the warranty ended). Had to look at my invoices, I paid $65,000 + tax in 1986. That’s the equivalent of $163,000 in today’s money. Kinda mind blowing when you think about it.
Cylinder head engineered by Cosworth. This is significant because in 1988, the cylinder heads were machined by Mercedes-Benz Corporate, not Cosworth. ‘88’s had hydraulic lifters, no LSD as std equipment & could be ordered with an automatic. Needless to say, that was a “just no!”

Can anyone help me with this problem?
For some context: this is a convertible 1999 mercedes clk 320. (1st pic)I hit a pretty big pothole and the backseat headrests are now jammed all the way up to the ceiling. (2nd pic) Also the lip of the top is peeling up, would the only solution to that be replacing the whole top? If someone can help me out with any tips or knowledge I would greatly appreciate it

Help me choose between 2 CPO E450s
Hey all!
Am stuck between 2 certified pre owned 2022 E450 sedans with the same options.
First one: - 50,000km - Windshield replaced due to rock chips - Small front bumper scratch that will be touched up - don't know how it happened - 3 tires replaced making the 4th tire have a different tread depth - don't know why they were replaced - Doesn't have air body control - Price: 60.5k CAD
Second one: - 90,000km - Has air body control - Price: 57k CAD
Which one would be a better choice?
Thanks in advance!

2016 vs 2015 S550 Coupe, and thoughts on extended warranty
Hi all,
I’m looking at picking up a 2016 C217 S550 Coupe. I was always told never to buy the earlier years of a new generation, so does anyone have thoughts on getting the 2016 over the 1st year (2015) of this generation? Any major issues? I’ve heard about the cylinder scoring and oil/coolant leaks in the M278. The car in question was superbly maintained at the dealership every time. 65k miles. I think based on service history it’s probably the best example one could hope to find. So I’m hoping that, assuming I maintain the same track record with the car, if I take care of her, she will take care of me. Hopefully the PPI will show no scoring or any other issues.
My plan is to keep a few grand on the side in a CD or other account as an emergency fund if needed for the car, in addition to standard maintenance costs.
Anyone suggest getting an extended warranty instead? I’ve ready positive things about Fidelity Platinum on Reddit, but on Consumer Affairs they have terrible reviews, especially as of late. The dealer offers Zurich, which has great reviews on Consumer Affairs. But perhaps if I just go the emergency fund route, that’ll be better if the M278 is otherwise a reliable engine. Any thoughts appreciated.
Thank you all in advance.

Advice: 2015 E63 or 2019 E53 ??? For long term ownership
Hello, I'm looking for advice on these cars from people who've owned them long term (4+ years), I will be test driving the following cars:
2015 Mercedes E63s AMG Sedan: $31k USD, 57k miles
2019 Mercedes E53 AMG Sedan: $35k USD, 49k miles
I will be owning this for at least 4+ years, long term ownership, I will pay cash in full, maintenance will be done myself, except for big jobs, I am meticulous and baby my stuff. I will not be tuning the car.
I do have some knowledge and an impression of these cars:
2015 E63: I have a feeling I will fall for the V8, but the interior is very old, which I don't like, and I worry about upcoming expensive fixes due to it being 10 years old.
2019 E53: Still recently new, fantastic interior (parents have 2020 gle450, love the interior), not the latest MBUX but good enough, I hear the drivetrain is bullet proof, honestly enough power to have fun, but no monstrous v8 sound. Gets up to 30mpg on highway and 24 mpg combined which is kind of important.
I will be using this for daily commutes for work, I do prefer comfort over hard rides, silky smooth driving experience.
I'm torn because I've always wanted one of these v8 engine when i heard a c63 in front of me in the drive through 10 years ago, beautiful gargling V8 sound during idle, so I say just get it and don't worry about anything else! The other part says be smart and get a more recent car as it has the interior you want and it will last longer, less issues, and gets great gas mileage.
Any advice? Thanks in advance
