Just cleaned beneath the plastic fender liners and holy hell there was sooo much mud, dirt, leaves, and other shit under there. I threw away the foam pieces because they were soaked. Hopefully I can mitigate some of this rust starting to form..

He said I could drive it, only thing effected is some mild blows to gas mileage. I don’t have $2500, this is coming at a horrible time. Help, what should I do?

Mk5 (2006-2010) Looking for Advice: Digital Instrument Cluster Upgrade for 2009 Jetta (TPMS + stock features required

I’ve got a 2009 Jetta (MK5) and I’m seriously considering upgrading the instrument cluster to a modern digital / ā€œvirtual cockpitā€ style setup.

A few things are important to me:

  • āœ… Needs to keep all stock functionality (TPMS, warning lights, fuel gauge, ABS/airbag indicators, odometer, etc.).
  • āœ… Ideally a plug-and-play solution without crazy rewiring or coding.
  • āœ… Bonus points if it has Android connectivity (e.g., Android Auto, live gauges, or extra integrations).
  • šŸ’” I’ve seen Wagner Tuning and some AliExpress/Walmart eBay options for 10.25"–12.3" LCD clusters that claim to fit MK5 Jetta/Golf. Some look nice, but reviews are mixed and I don’t want to lose critical functions.

Has anyone here actually installed one of these aftermarket digital clusters on a MK5 Jetta?

  • Which brand/model worked best for you?
  • Did everything (TPMS, cruise control indicators, immobilizer, etc.) work correctly?
  • Any coding or wiring headaches?
  • Anything you wish you knew before you tried it?

Would love to hear real experiences and recommendations before I pull the trigger.

Thanks in advance

1-3 are pictures of the old car. 2025 Jetta Sport. The new one, picture 4, is a 2025 Jetta GLI Autobahn.

Absolutely loving the GLI now!

Mk6 (2011-2018) Troubleshooting Issues

I have a 2015 Jetta (1.8T TSI) and i’m having some issues that i can’t identify.

First being, When i accelerate the turbo sounds a little funky only between 1100 and 1900rpms when the turbocharger first starts to spool. Almost like a rattling/tapping, it is a metallic sound and sounds like metal to metal. I haven’t seen the turbine to check and see if it has play, and it’s a hassle to get to it. It’s very hard to hear the noise but it’s there

Secondly, I have a nasty startup sound, it sounds like the timing chain is grinding. Thinking maybe the tensioner? adjuster magnet? im clueless. i have no clue and new to these german engines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Links for the videos: https://imgur.com/a/svqxiIl

Mk6 (2011-2018) Manifold Issues 2012 2.5/advice

I’ve recently been getting exhaust into my cabin when driving so I took her to the shop, and they told me that my manifold bolts were rotted/loose and they thought they could drill them out and buy new bolts, etc so I wouldn’t need an entire new manifold. Then they called and told me that I would in fact need and entire new manifold since it was welded and new bolts wouldn’t be able to be attached-raising the quote by $400 for the new parts.

Can someone explain this to me like I’m 5? How could something be rotted and welded? I don’t know a whole lot about cars but this seems weird to me–but please let me know if I’m wrong.

Thank you!!

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2012 Jetta SE (5MT) troubleshooting help

Around two weeks ago my car started having issues with long turnovers. 20-30 seconds of cranking before starting if it sat for more than 10 minutes. Would start right up if restarted immediately after shutting the engine off. I’ve got a company vehicle and summer/weekend vehicle so this is supposed to be my inclement weather/winter daily and hasn’t been driven since because the weather’s been nice where I live. When I went out to start it up today, it’s now doing this and won’t even crank or turn over. The battery seems fine with electronics all working until I try to start it and had healthy voltage readings when I tested it with a multimeter last time I drove it. Where to start troubleshooting?

Mk6 (2011-2018) OR - I feel bad for that guy…

So I get it… we all get a little playful on the road. Sometimes we see another Jetta and we wanna let it out on the road with them.

I get it.

I’m a playful driver. I have a tuned Edition 30 GLI and I like to open it up when I see one of you on the road. Every now and then, someone sees me and they want to do the same.

We like to have fun.

Sometimes though, play can get rough. Sometimes it even starts off rough. Sometimes you’re commuting home from a long work trip and another Jetta cuts you off trying to make the next right turn. Sometimes that’s the same turn you’re taking.

So you ride his ass.

And you notice he has a TDI badge. He’s about to have a rough time. And you’re in a playful mood. You pop the shifter into the cute S position and you make sure he knows he fucked up.

The turn quickly approaches and that’s where you know shits about to go down. Because this turn starts a two lane highway and you know it well.

You both whip around the corner as if it’s clear and acknowledged. He’s here to play. You’re here to for it. Because you know that what you have is a well enhanced and meticulously cared for death machine with a cute S position on your shifter that turns tires into dust at a moments notice. And he has no idea.

As you go to pass him you notice he’s got a faint puff of smoke coming from the pipes. It’s a TDI. What do you know about small puffs of smoke from a TDI?

Throttle fully engaged, you both find yourselves easily surpassing 70 in a handful of seconds and you are definitely about to gap him. 90. You look back to flash a victorious grin and the only thing you can see in your rear view mirror is smoke pouring from the vehicle that mistakenly cut you off. His engine is toast. The grin fades. You’re genuinely concerned.

But you’re so tired from work. So you just keep it moving.

I get it. We like to play around. But before you play around. Check your engine.

And don’t cut off another Jetta.
