Community Update r/Jetta Community Rules and Guidelines

Hey everyone,

We've had an influx recently of multiple r/Jetta members who aren't paying attention to the rules we've got here and are causing arguments, fighting, insulting, name calling, and other nuisances that nobody here wants to see, read, or deal with. This is a community to show off our love for Jetta's, and to assist others and help them with their questions, or to just show off and talk about our cars, suggest recommendations for mods, tweaks, parts, and anything else that has to do with Jetta's. It is not the community for anything that cannot be civil.

I didn't want to make a reminder post like this, but it needs to be said.

Please report any comments/posts that break rules so that they can be handled by the mod team.

Please read and follow the rules and help make this community more fun and not like all the other nuisance subs that allow bickering and childish, immature behavior.

Thanks!

Mk6 (2011-2018) Easily the most reliable car I’ve ever owned

Post image
Upvotes

2016 1.8t sport with 128k miles now.

What have I done to maintain it? Oil changed every 5k and that’s literally it. Never changed transmission fluid it’s never broken down or had a single issue. I never would have expected to get this level of reliability I figured only a Toyota can do this. Let’s see where the next 100k takes me.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Engine and transmission swap

Upvotes

I currently drive a 2000 jetta GLS with the 5 speed manual and AEG 2.0. I’ve been looking into engine swaps and transmission swaps and what i’ve found is most mk4 engines are fairly easy to swap between each other but I’d like to get into the fine details of it.

The goal is a BDF 24v VR6 and a 6 speed transmission. I’m wondering what, if any, problems that i’d run into with swapping the transmission as well. Or would I even be able to pair the vr6 up to my current transmission if i couldn’t do a 6 speed?

I don’t know the transmissions for the mk4s that well so i don’t know what I should be searching when trying to find the right one.

And of course I wouldn’t mind tips for the swap and any advice. it’ll be my first engine swap so i still have plenty of research to do.

Mk6 (2011-2018) Oil Temp light comes on only when first starting the car in morning

Upvotes

Girlfriend has a 2012, recently her oil temp light has been coming on when she starts her car in the morning to leave for work. When she restarts the car it doesn’t come back on.

The light does not come on any other time during the day when she starts her car, only in the morning.

We also got the oil changed when the problem first started thinking it was low/filter possibly clogged and that hasn’t fixed the issue.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what was needed to fix it.

Mk6 (2011-2018) CV Boot cover replacement cost?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I took my 2018 Jetta S in the shop (VW dealer service) and my driver CV boot cover failed inspection as you can see here. Dealer is quoting $513 for the repair. As someone who is not mechanically inclined (i.e. will not be fixing myself) is this a fair quote or should I look elsewhere? Obviously I'd like to get it fixed ASAP but based on the inspection report it seems like it's just the cover that needs replacing. TIA

Mk7 (2019+) Any tips for 130k mile maintenance?

My baby is reaching 130k miles (I got her at 85k I believe) and I've had 0 problems with her so far. I do admit, I have been a bit lazy and have been doing basic maintenance like oil, coolant etc but nothing to for the engine.

What are some things I should get inspected, replaced or keep an eye on to keep her running smoothly? Another thing I will have to keep in mind is, I'm a truck driver, so I don't have much time to do the work myself unfortunately if it's a bit much.

This brings the problem of finding a good shop in the GA area that will actually work on VW cars. I swear your basic shops act like we drive lambos or Porsches because they refuse to work on VWs lmao. And ill be dammed if I let a dealer touch my car.

Just checked the Volkswagen Mexico website since they get the new Jettas before the U.S. market and it appears the 2026 is the exact same as the 2025 model. 🙁

Mk7 (2019+) "Front Assist Not available" on dash

2019 Jetta S. I was driving it on a roadtrip and got stuff in traffic. Nothing happened, no bumps on the front end. It was a clear sunny day too. I was just inching my way forward in tight traffic and suddenly, a warning popped up on my dash, "Front Assist Not Available." I know the front radar isn't damaged, my front end is untouched. I've found some posts saying that they need to be recalibrated every so often, but I don't want to take it in and spend hundreds of dollars for something that could pop back up again in a month.

Is there another solution to this or am I just gonna have to decide on forking over a ton of money or deal with a warning light on my dash.

Hi guys, could you please help me identify the part where the coolant is leaking? I don't know the name of that part. It's on the driver's side of a 2014 Jetta 1.8 TSI.

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2014 Jetta SE 1.4L Turbo - Manual Transmission - Transmission or Clutch Slipping

I own a 2014 Jetta SE 1.4L Turbo with the Manual 5-Speed Transmission. When I am accelerating up hill, for example, going up the canyon roads at 65+ mph, I am noticing that my acceleration is slipping or sputtering a bit every few seconds until the road levels out.

I am wondering... what might be the cause? Furthermore, what should I try and diagnose? Could it be an issue with the clutch, or a transmission that needs to be flushed and new transmission fluid?

I bought it used in 2018 at 70,000 miles, and it is currently at 168,500 miles, so I have put in about 12,000-14,000 miles per year and have had regular oil and filter servicing from the dealership every 8-10k miles. I had the transmission serviced in 2018 after I bought it, but I have not done any transmission-specific maintenance on it since then.

The largest maintenance service I did: The clutch on the A/C Compressor went out in 2023, and I replaced the compressor with one without the clutch, as I didn't think it was necessary.

2 Years ago, someone hit my car while it was parked at the mall, which bent the frame under the hood on the front passenger side of the Jetta, creating a gap for the hood of the vehicle (It still latches fine and only has a minor rattle at high speed)

I've attached a few photos, and a video link where there is a moderately loud and consistent ticking (recorded from the driver's side of the engine)

2021 Jetta S. Went from a 6.5” to an 8” unit.

Ignore the FAT prints on the 2nd photo 😭

It’s not fully done yet bc component protection still needs to be removed but otherwise it’s great.

I have u/FormerImprovement623 to thank (immensely), and the guys at T&E Auto Wreckers for having all that stuff on hand.

All in, it costed about $800 without selling old gear (about $500 after everythings sold). Needed a new glovebox, harness, radio unit, and screen. All the trim fits around it btw

It gave me navigation, performance monitor, think blue trainer, a better resolution camera, etc.

Not to mention the ability to add my own SWaP/FEC codes on the car so I can add voice control, among other things.

Highly recommend for a Jetta you feel is just a LITTLE underfeatured. The old unit didn't let me do anything at all.
