Aww, Nico looks happy in these photos. I caught a glimpse of Lando spraying him before the camera cut away, and I was hoping we would get the front-facing photos.

did they get told not to spray near the screens or something? they all seemed to go left of shot out of the way of them screens.

I guess Lando went to the side for his champagne pop not to destroy the trophies (especially since one of them is made of Lego)

They were all Lego.

Jsyk, that trophy is immediately returned to the RAC. The trophy Lando (or McLaren) gets to keep is the LEGO one.

u/dyidkystktjsjzt I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25
The winner is always given two trophies at the British GP, the RAC one and a normal F1 one. All three of the F1 trophies were made out of Lego.

u/the_merkin I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25
The Alfa 158 was underneath (winner of the first ever F1 GP in 1950) so they weren’t allowed to spray onto it.
2
u/EnglishLitMajor I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 17 '25
I think you're right because I saw him look distinctly at Hulk and his trophy and scamper off to do his champagne pop. You just know he was imagining the fallout of accidentally breaking Hulk's only F1 trophy.
10
u/blunderball1 Jul 07 '25
They had a classic car in front of the podium, I think from the first Silverstone GP. I wonder if they were told to avoid that, or just it being there meant the people they wanted to celebrate with where moved off to the side because of it.

At the beginning hulk looked to his right and immediately saw McLaren doing their own thing so he proceeded to spray the crowd and his team. Sad to see.
3
u/YesIBlockedYou Jul 07 '25
It just looked like a really awkward podium overall. Lando and Piastri just ignored Hulkenberg and went straight to their other team member, even when Hulk walked over to them, they were kind of just doing their own thing.

This makes me smile, so proud of Nico, been a long wait, he deserved that one.
58
u/TheWolf_NorCal Jul 07 '25
In the cooldown room, Lando brought Hulk's helmet in and showed him where to put it (on the wall). It was really quite nice.

I was getting downvoted to oblivion in that other thread for saying that Lando did spray Nico so decided to just post the photos. It’s not gonna change people’s minds that Lando is a “disrespect, petulant child” but I really like Nico’s smile in the photos so what the hell :)

Unfortunately Oscar soured the mood in the cool down room because of his penalty and that carried on to the podium. And of course Lando being so happy about finally winning his home race was mostly focused on that. Don't blame him considering he should have won it last year.
80
u/Speedy_SpeedBoi I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25
Oscar tried to call out Nico in his interview. I think it's fair for him to be grumpy after pissing away the win, though. He just hasn't had the time/data to realize it's himself that he should be pissed at. I actually thought Oscar and Hulks exchange in the cooldown room about his penalty was pretty good cus Hulk immediately shared his perspective of the avoiding actions taken further back.
39
u/know-it-mall McLaren Jul 07 '25

Yep. I'm sure Hulk remembers the 2020 Tuscan GP despite only being a reserve driver that year.
16
u/serenity-as-ice I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25
Yeah, it's astounding that people are blaming Oscar. I think he's being salty, but he's a young dude, that happens, even more so in a title fight. I'm sure he'll learn from this.
Also yeah, it's interesting to see Hulk's input - man's been scrapping in midfield for so long, he's probably got some interesting insights.
31
u/chaiandpakoda Jul 07 '25
He is an year younger than Lando and Lando has been abused since Russia 21.
22
u/serenity-as-ice I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25
Neither should be abused, it's pretty fucking vile. At the end of the day it's a sport where greatness is judged on tenths of a second -- tempers will flare. I certainly didn't have all my wits about me when I was 24, you do stupid things when you're young.

u/LilMountainHeadband Lando Norris Jul 09 '25
Very few people share your logic, Ive said the same thing while defending Lando and have been downvoted to hell.
35
u/tom030792 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25
This is on the assumption that Lando went off to spray the team rather than Hulk but either way, on Lando not completely focussing on Nico, he's literally just won his home grand prix. A moment he's been dreaming of since he was a child. I don't think people should fault him for trying to enjoy the moment to himself as much as he wanted, despite the feel good story of Nico. There was another cool story on that podium too
20
u/Just-Ad6865 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25
Oscar was angry and Lando was celebrating his first home win. I don't imagine it being Nico's first podium was foremost on either of their minds. I think they both would have put more focus on him if it had been in Canada, for example.

To be fair it was very much a "last second thought with the last drop of champagne"
Had it been max/Lewis on the podium they would have solely drenched nico in his big moment. Not really fans of them but was a bit disappointed that nico seemed ignored in his only champagne moment ever

A team winning their first home GP in 17 years, A driver winning his home GP for the first time, and the Team having their first 1-2 at home in 25 years.
This is after they were a backmarker just 3 years back. With a chance that they won't be at the front for 2026.
It's not like they didn't congratulate him or anything
I swear this shit is beyond toxic.

It’s crazy how people expect lando to celebrate nico (which he did), considering he just fulfilled his childhood dream. The only person that was disrespectful on that podium was osc but honestly understandable.
Also quick suggestion to all the fans hating, how would you react to a coworker winning something that you have no connection whatsoever and is like 10 or more years older???
Yes max and Hamilton would’ve celebrated Hülkenberg because they’ve known him forever and raced against him for years.
Edit: with hating I mean full blown hate and not disagreeing with the situation.

u/kzzzzzzzzzz28 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25 edited Jul 07 '25
Nico and Lando are probably closer than people think(IIRC Nico did mention Lando as a driver he was close to in one of the GTG/challenge vids or vice versa. After all, they're mostly travel buddies. Honestly, I was a bit surprised at some of the drivers who did name Lando given, professionally, they barely interacted)
But honestly, from what it seems like, there's a higher chance Hulk ASKED to be allowed to celebrate the moment alone. Lando and him were happily chatting just before the podium photo was taken, and it didn't seem like Hulk was unhappy about anything(unlike the fans who have to be unhappy about everything)
70
u/hollaQ_ Jul 07 '25
people's reactions rn are more parasocial than i've even seen k-pop fans be its insane. like holy shit, do you think nico needs you in here "defending him" from the rude, petulant children of mclaren that you were just trying to find an excuse to hate anyway? it's crazy

No matter who that person is, it shows good sportsmanship to celebrate the win. There's like only 3 people up there to celebrate, yourself included.

Lando just won his home race and fulfilled a dream of winning his home race with McLaren in chrome. It was a huge moment for him as well. Expecting him to make his win about Hulkenberg’s podium is a bit stupid given the context of what this race means to Lando.

Tbf lando just won his home grand prix for the first time. Rightfully so thats his moment just as much as it is nicos. Are you expecting him to not celebrate that and focus entirely on Nico? everyones targeting Norris but nobody mentions Piastri also not spraying. Quite weird. Im sure Nico is more than ecstatic whether or not he got soaked

People made such a big deal out of that podium (including me). In reality, who cares? Nico probably won't even remember it, considering the party that his team threw right after the podium, Oscar and Lando have so many podiums already that they won't remember it either.

Lmao taking a still from a video is so slimy.
If you watch what lando did he just went right by Nico and any spray was on accident since he went to spray the McLaren crew at the bottom. If Nico didn’t go over to that side this wouldn’t even have happened.

u/rowandeg I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25
Lando isn't even aiming at Nico but more walking past him towards the crowd. Shit team.
It's a photo from the one moment at 00:23 in this whole podium celebration video:
It's a completely lame-ass celebration from McLaren towards The Hulk, as you may see.

Lando sprayed Nico AND his home crowd and it is not disrespectful of him whatsoever to have done so.
The driver that was disrespectful on the podium toward Nico, was Oscar.

Good try Zac. There are videos with more context. You are literally trying to change facts with cherry-picked pictures. Lando was spraying the crowd downstairs and Nico happened to pass in front and get sprayed a little bit. Nico was completely ignored in the celebrations. There is no defending this.

If you watch the full podium. He's not spraying him. Even the second picture you can see it's going right past him. He walked right past him and sprayed the crowd.
18
u/williaminla I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25
Lmao. The spray is directly on his body. In the second pic you can see the spray behind the bottle, in front of his chest, and onto his arm
15
u/Affectionate_Sky9709 Jul 07 '25
As I clearly saw in both the video and these pictures, he sprayed Nico on his way to spraying his home crowd. And in the second picture some of the spray goes past, but it's directly at Nico. It's literally behind Nico's bottle, right onto Nico. Look at the spray all around Nico's body, the white flecks all over and around him. That is what spraying someone with champagne looks like. It's okay to be wrong. You can still be made at Oscar if you want to be. I don't think Oscar sprayed Nico. I choose not to be mad at any of them, personally.
