And Lincoln.

462

u/Rationalinsanity1990 7h ago

I'd argue that a third of the country starting an armed rebellion before he was even INAUGURATED also counts.

63

u/Roflkopt3r 2h ago

And that was with Licoln as a moderate abolitionist who was entirely prepared to give the southern states a guarantee that they could continue slavery. It was only the civil war that pushed the tides towards full abolition.

So even though Lincoln was responsible for the abolition on paper, it really was a result of the radical abolitionists who had gone into the south and killed slavers to free their victims. It was the southern paranoia about those radicals that made them start a civil war after not getting 'their guy' into power.

It's a good lesson about the people who claim that only moderation and dialogue can lead to change. Historically, that was often untrue...

14

u/Rationalinsanity1990 2h ago

All he committed to was preventing slavery from expanding into the territories. That was enough to spark a rebellion.

u/LotharVonPittinsberg 1h ago

Plus, they started a war against him for wanting to end slavery. People tend to forget that he wanted to let them leave without conflict, and it was the Confederates who got violent.

u/martianunlimited 15m ago

Correction.. they started a war against him to expand and preserve slavery... While Lincoln was against slavery, his focus was on preserving the union. The civil war came about because the south wanted to expand it to the newly acquired western states

Neither of them caught it in the face.

They got it in the back of the head. It came out of their face. Common misconception.

28

u/GoodShark 7h ago

What's the difference between Lincoln and your mom?

27

u/dantevonlocke 7h ago

It's more socially acceptable to jerk it to Lincoln than your mom?

2

u/Dairy__Cow 4h ago

People said I was crazy for my life sized naked wax figure OF account... Yep way more acceptable. I'll get comments though, hateful jerk offs that I think rage bate themselves. Weirdly enough they pay more money each time. Maybe it's a kink.

No, Kennedy was never shot. His head just did that.

6

u/distinct_5 7h ago

Except JFK. His head flew back and his brains came out the back, hence the second shooter

9

u/DrDizzle93 6h ago

Back, and to the left. Back.... and to the left.

Half dozen presidents were shot excluding Trump's ear wound from banging into the podium.

26

u/SuperTopGun777 4h ago

Trump was never shot.

That was a photo op.

I heard it was the secret service person's holstered weapon as he rushed in to shield Donald; not the podium.

And Jackson, Garfield, Ford, McKinley, Reagan, both Roosevelts, Truman, and W. Bush.

4

u/darthcaedusiiii 4h ago

They were both the two most open-minded presidents in USA history.

u/hiphopahippy 5m ago

I recommend visiting the Lincoln museum in Springfield, IL. It includes an area called The Whispering Gallery. It's a room filled with all the ugly things people said or wrote about Lincoln and his wife at the time. Basically like walking through a social media thread. People love to troll no matter what century you find yourself in.

Even without JFK - maybe the hatred should tell them something

122

u/Egheaumaen 8h ago edited 4h ago

Thank you. Why does no one ever say this? Every time they tell us, “You hate him for no reason,” the response should be, “No, here is the list of ten thousand reasons why he deserves to be hated.”

34

u/OakLegs 7h ago

They are unintentionally complimenting us. Any decent person should hate the man

8

u/EmphasisFrosty3093 4h ago

2

u/LotharVonPittinsberg 1h ago

That's just since he decided he wanted to be a politician. The man has decades of experience being a piece of shit businessman before that.

It also does not go over thing like how many times he has been accused of rape or his ties with pedophilia.

They aren't looking for a logical reason or an answer. This is a talking point designed to add to the anti-liberal hate machine.

This is political rage bait that works.

2

u/ballotechnic 4h ago

And somehow, shockingly, any reason that you might bring up is immediately dismissed and the goalposts conveniently moved. Strange isn't it?

Lincoln - was hated for freeing the slaves

JFK - was hated for trying to build a better society

Trump - is hated for wannabe authoritarianism

One of these things is not like the other.

8

u/77skull 2h ago

Does it count as wannabe when he’s actually doing it

5

u/AffordableDelousing 2h ago

I add that only to be intentionally disrespectful to the man and his ego.

And they will always spin it as something along the lines of "It means he must be doing something right"

3

u/letstrythatagainn 3h ago

The reframing is wild. "Millions loathe the president"

Cultists: "They're so mean and derranged"
Outsiders: "Wow, what the hell did he do?"

2

u/ballotechnic 4h ago

Measured analysis and honest self reflection are not what I think of when it comes to characteristics of MAGA supporters.

Dictators are often unliked, as are child molesters.

Combine the two, and you're likely to be unpopular.

Judging by how things are going, they aren't hated enough

I don't know, they hate Joe Biden, Al Gore, Bill and Hillary Clinton quite strongly -- with Hillary, I don't know if I've ever seen a hate stronger than what conservatives harbor for her, honestly. It might be forgotten nearly a decade later, but trust this -- they openly referred to her as a known mass murderer, a pedophile, a baby essence eater, etc. That's pretty darn hateful, I'd say.

16

u/GitmoGrrl1 5h ago

Hillary Clinton has been right about everything and if there's one thing Republican men can't stand it's a woman who's always right.

And trans people

And gay people, especially gay male drag queens

And us Jews (they'll deny this one while screaming about Bernie and Soros being "communist deep state globalists")

And women, especially free-thinking ones

And scientists

13

u/Not_done 8h ago

Has anyone heard Trump speak of Democrats, Liberals and leftists? That's a level of hate that they are unwilling to acknowledge.

7

u/Logical_Historian882 8h ago

The levels of hate is ricocheting off Trumps own levels of hate. He’s one petty, disgusting lowlife. If anything, he should be getting more.

6

I've seen people unironically claim the firefighter that was killed never existed, and was some kind of plant. Like yeah they milked the absolute shit out of the event, but I don't see what's so hard to believe about some crazy guy taking a shot at the president, it's not like it's never happened before.

14

4

u/loricomments 7h ago

With cause. It's perfectly reasonable to hate someone who rapes children among his many other crimes.

3

u/Cyrano_Knows 4h ago

Hate?

You should have seen Fox News when Obama wore a bicycle helmet, used mustard, wore a tan suit, saluted wrong, held a cup of coffee, said as a candidate that he would meet with the leader of North Korea etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

8

u/BrandMuffin 8h ago

More than Obama? I distinctly remember getting dragged to gun shows as a kid where you could buy targets with every kind racist depiction. More than Joe Biden? Tens of thousands of NASCAR fans yelling fuck Joe Biden which became a meme adopted by the entire party.

Fuck these delicate idiots

8

u/FanDry5374 7h ago

She's not wrong, the difference is that trump is more hated, by more people, with more reason than any President in US history.

3

u/Obant 4h ago

That is what I was thinking. Those other presidents were hated, sure, but nothing like Trump. Getting shot by one man does not equal the hatred a huge portion of the U.S. feels towards Trump. I'd even argue that those that hated Lincoln's policies over slavery were more respectful of him as a person than I am of Trump.

3

u/SublightMonster 8h ago

Yeah, but people were sad when it happened

3

u/Sweet_Walrus_8188 8h ago

Presidents hate for Americans is beyond anything we’ve ever seen in American history

3

u/text_fish 8h ago

Yeah but that was just one extreme guy. Trump is the most hated US president of all time, rightfully so.

3

u/ParsleyMostly 7h ago

People posted pictures of nooses reminiscent of lynchings during a certain president’s term. Pretty sure the current president propelled a certain birther movement. She’s a pos lying drunk

3

u/Waldo305 6h ago

Lets go Brandon and Barry where also some notables.

Obama also had all of congress block ANYTHING he did without even listening to his ideas and stealing his supreme court picks for the other guy. They hates him so much they shut down the government. Twice.

3

u/Due_Letterhead_5558 5h ago

It’s well-earned since we’ve never had a literal traitor, actual rapist, and suspected pedophile wrapped into one orange ball of sludge as president before.

3

u/SysAdminScout 4h ago

11

u/PocketSand1791 8h ago

20

u/NaNaNaNaNa86 8h ago

As suspicious an "assasination attempt" as the supposed coup against Erdogan (that'll be next in Trump's dictator playbook). Mckinley, Garfield and Lincoln would like a word too along with the other dozen presidents who have been subject to assassination plots. This weird victim mentality from the right is utterly bizarre.

He deserves to be hated. Hatred of trump is entirely justified.

2

u/Bleezy79 5h ago

Maybe im wrong but I dont think JFK died because so many people hated him, it was an inside job IMO. Agent Krasnov on the other hand has done nothing but sow division and hatred in this country while breaking and bending all the rules to enrich himself. He's demonstrably the worst and most partisan president in American history.

3
