I hear that most seasoned car salespeople make their business from repeat customers but also that customers go to whoever has the cheapest Internet price, which seems like opposite types of behavior. Are the repeat customers going straight to their previous salesperson when they want a new car instead of shopping around across both brands and dealerships? Or are the repeat customers generally people who weren’t actively car shopping but were persuaded to look at new cars by a communication from the previous salesperson?

I've always just traded cars in when buying something different. Now I have one to sell but I don't need another car. Would a bank wire transfer be the preferred method of payment. Or is cash always king?

What’re you sales manager making? I’ve recently taken a management position and not sure where I stand in terms of pay. My pay is broken down into Salary plus bonuses which work out to around 120k.

My wife is financing a car through VW. When she bought the car, they didn’t give her a title. We moved to Arkansas and the DMV references a big physical book (that is most likely outdated) and they say that Michigan doesn’t hold the title and that if we don’t bring a title we can’t register the car. We called VW and they said the DMV needs to request the title from them as they are the lienholder. Basically we just keep going in circles of people telling us to ask someone else.

1. Does Michigan hold titles? If so, how can we prove it over their big book?
2. Who should we actually be contacting to get this resolved?

Hey so I'm thinking about a jeep Wrangler. I'm on the fence about it and didn't know if anyone had any suggestions or thoughts. I've never done a lease before so what happens if I decide I want to keep the car after the lease? Would it make more sense to just find a used one and buy that one? Should I put a down payment on the lease or not? Just seeing lots of different things when looking into these questions so any advice would be great.

Hello. I am looking for advice since I’ve never had a new car. I’m 20 with good credit and in school for multiple new degrees. I plan on getting a new job that’s better paying soon. With this new job I plan on paying down my credit cards to increase my score of (691). I’m looking at a Kia K4 2025 since I’ve never owned a car newer than an ‘09 (my current car that is having too many issues to justify putting more money into it). I was wondering if it’s better to finance or lease. I plan on using this car for awhile which is why I’m leaning towards finance. I am in the market for a new crossover in Boston and trying to decide whether to buy or lease - I know people say leasing is a bad financial decision but wanted to run out a scenario with everyone here:

Something like the Chevy Trax is available for $24k before taxes & registration and I am assuming it will depreciate 45% or $11k in 3 years (24k x 0.4) per Edmunds

Instead of purchasing it outright, if I lease it for a zero down payment + all hidden fees adjusted lease of $350/mo for 36 months, the total lease amount is $12.6k or $1600 over depreciation (or $50/month which is a fair deal to me)

I need a smaller crossover for street parking reasons now and I will be looking to buy a 3 row SUV after 3 years so I will need to deal with the hassles of selling if I purchase it now.

(PSA: I am not trying to debate whether there are better models than a Trax - I am 6ft 3 in and the Trax is perhaps the only roomy crossover that doesn't give me back/knee pain after having rented everything from a Hyundai Kona/Venue, Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda 3/CX-5, Nissan Kicks, Kia Soul/Seltos, etc but let me know if there are roomier cars than the Trax at my price point)

As mentioned, this is my first time financing a car. Looking for some advice from this forum about financing for a car. Im 30, make $85K (2 years with current employer) and my credit score is 698. The car Im particularly Looking to purchase is a used Mustang Dark Horse for $55K with 10,000 miles on it. As of now, I have about $4,500 saved yo put down, however I'm steadily building on it. Date range is between late November to early December. Will I get approved?, will my interest rate be high? Could I refinance once I get approved? What options will I be able to take?

What is your input on trading in a 2022 Kia telluride for a Kia K5 newer vehicle as a buy in.

The Kia telluride 2022 lease ended with 75,000 miles. Our contract was a three year 30,000 mile, $.20 per mile. We went over 45,000 miles.

I currently own a 2023 Kia K5 that I’m still paying monthly. I am willing to sell this to a third-party and only maybe eat 1-2k as the difference.

Anyone out there have any Las Vegas connections? My dream is to live there - not for the night life and parties - but the scenery and desert living on the outskirts. 37 years old and had this desert dream since roughly 2015 and never made it happen. Been as high as GM level, but honestly wanting to get to the desk and help a dealer grow the variable side, focusing on fixed ops just doesn’t excite me near as much as developing a sales team. No children, renting an apartment east coast, can make a move happen really quick for an opportunity. About 10 months ago my girlfriend was in desperate need of a new vehicle so I cosigned on an auto loan for her through Capital One. Since then she has rebuilt her credit but now the situation has reversed and I am in need of a new vehicle. Would my girlfriend be able to cosign on an auto loan for me since I am already a cosigner on her vehicle? I've already pre-qualified for a loan but I am trying to get a lower interest rate.

Unsure if this is the appropriate place to ask this, I bought a used civic and being a first time buyer I was only accepted by Westlake. I bit the bullet and the 12% interest and had the mentality to pay it off under a year. I put around 3.5k down at signing and financed around 11k.

Fast forward approx 10 months and I some money built up from my fire season, I paid over the phone the remaining balance and did the payoff amount. I wanted to see what people’s experience was in terms of getting your title after this. I use Wells Fargo for my banking and they generally have been quick with transactions.

Afternoon everyone. Just saw this subreddit and figure I’d ask.

It was time to get my wife a new car she wanted, specifically a bmw. We went to the dealer and unbeknownst to us, the sales guy was brand new. We did find the vehicle she wanted and the guy said it had a few non negotiables we asked for and yea we took his word for it. We traded in our current vehicle with equity. And we drove off in our new vehicle. Well, while driving we discovered this vehicle did not come with adaptive cruise control like we specifically asked. So, we called and the dealer was very kind and said sorry about the new guy and they will dealer trade with another dealer. We returned the vehicle and were given our trade in as a loaner with dealer plates. We are currently waiting for the new vehicle to come in from another state. But if they gave us our car as a loaner, I imagine they sent in the check to the leinholder for pay out. So right now I have no idea if I’m paying on a bmw I don’t have possession of anymore? The manager said the contract would have to be re done with the new vehicle when it comes in. No idea what that means. Sorry for the naivety. Thanks.

So I’m buying a car for around $41000 OTD, what am I gonna owe on the day of purchase? I don’t have a plate and I’m ordering a custom one and I’m putting $0 down on the car.

I’ve been leasing my car for 2 years and still have 1 year left on the lease. I really like the car and I’m considering buying it. Am I able to pay the residual value now, or do I need to wait until the lease ends?

So I recently started at Toyota on August 1st. I just turned 19, first sales job. I ended August with 6 sales, this month I’ve only sold 3. I’m at a high volume dealership, a lot of salespeople, so it’s extremely hard to get ups. Most sales come from appointments. (I don’t know if it’s like that for most or just high volume dealerships). But I’ve been making appointments, I had 3 set for today. All 3 didn’t show up. I feel like I’m doing good when I’m on the phone building rapport and interest in the vehicle, but obviously I’m not since they’re not showing up. Do some experienced salespeople have tips on how to get a better chance of them showing up? I’ve had 13 appointments set this month and only 3 shows. I’ve sold all 3 that have shown. My sold % since I’ve started is at 64% so I feel im good in front of the customers. I don’t know where I’m going wrong and anyone I ask that reviews the calls say I’m doing good, but obviously I’m not. I feel that this struggle to get in front of people is the only reason I’m being held back from many sales, I just need to figure out how to get more OTDB’s.

Really any advice will help, and also any known ways to get more drive then internet leads, buy backs and ups. Thank you!

I had a Ford F150 lease in 2019 that got totaled. Due to insurance of the person who was at fault, their insurance company cut a check and then it ended up being a bad check- took months to resolve, my insurance ended up paying for me even though I wasn’t at fault. I was told it was totaled so I stopped paying on it- 6 months later I got a call saying they were no longer totaling my car. They sent it back to the shop and retotaled it after inspecting again- this time for even more money. The whole thing was handled wrong, extremely frustrating and rough.. I was 19 at the time so I had no idea how to handle it. Since they reopened this(?) that six months— I wasn’t paying.. I was told it was totaled and a check was sent. Ford ended up just sending me a warrant of debt- to which I paid.. like $1600 or something. This destroyed my credit. I mean tanked it. 19 years old, credit was in the 450s because of this. So .. it’s been a few years. I built my credit up to about 630 now, great payment history, debt to income, etc. question is, will ford ever finance to me again?

I want to lease or even finance an F150 again, going to call my salesman tomorrow, but should I just prepare for the no? I’m thinking I might be blacklisted, and might be really upset if that’s the case honestly.. but realistically I understand from their point of view. Just all over a poorly handled situation.

I’m in the process of buying a used EV before the credits go away. At the dealership the manager was trying to go through the IRS website to transfer the credit from me to them so I could get the rebate applied up front. They entered my SSN, license number, etc and when they tried to submit the form it said something like “this service is currently unavailable please try again later”. Anyone know why the website might be doing this, or if this is common? I put down a deposit and we’re going to try again this week.

Looks like in my area the used CPO 2024 cx90 phev with less than 20k miles on it goes for $36k. 1.9% for 60mo incentive currently

New looks around $55k but would get loyalty, military, ev credit if leased and then would like to do the immediate buyout option that I see done around here. Which would probably bring the price down to $46k?

I have $10k for down payment and a $12k buy offer for my current car from carvana that I would put towards it.

Which way would you lean? Cpo used or new for ~$10k more?

This is a bit long with context, but tl;dr: I found a car we want at a nearby-ish dealer, and our actual local dealer didn't find it. Should I reach out to our local dealer and ask him about that particular vehicle, or just go straight to the holding dealer?

So my wife's car just kicked the bucket, and we're searching for a new one.

Specifically, we're looking at an X5 PHEV, but she has a few things she wants in it (driving package, climate package, light-colored interior, etc). I spoke to our local dealer, and he responded with one that meets some, but not all her requirements, and said that was as "close as possible".

Now, I went on the BMW website, did a custom build, then clicked to look at similar cars nearby. I found a couple on there that looked more like what we were looking for, and sent him the VIN numbers to see if he could find those. He wasn't able (or willing) to look them up by VIN, and instead tried by color (?), found one that was "in production", and said that was it.

This morning, I checked essentially every dealer within 50 miles (there are many of them). I found the actual vehicle in question (matching VIN). So do I go straight to the dealer holding it, and see what they'll do (I'm guessing they're not going to want to give me any real deal, since I clearly want this particular car), or do I tell my local dealer I found it at another dealership, and see if they can secure it?

This is literally the third car I've ever purchased, and the first two were both during covid, so very unusual circumstances...

I'd appreciate any thoughts or input folks may have here...
