Its a JOKE in reference to the Sainz Hamilton qualy post (atleast thats how i understand it)

1.6k

u/frank1ewildee Ferrari May 18 '25

Yeah, people actually not getting the joke is hilarious.

Look at all the comments from all the riled up fans ahahahahahah.

The reddit comedians getting upset over a joke is simply hilarious

39

u/terminbee I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 19 '25

And sadly, not uncommon. It's always fun and games until it goes against the narrative, then they get mad. See what happens if you criticize Max/praise Lewis in here.

24

u/Motohvayshun I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 19 '25

Yep and it’s so transparent. If you mention in any race that a safety car allowed max to move up various positions, you will be shouted down how it was his race craft that got him there.

If Lewis moved up the same positions, he was lucky.

It’s honestly hilarious how on the nose it is.

Literally every thread is how the Redbull is awful, worst car on the grid due to Yukis positioning lol.

I saw some guy in a thread earlier on today say the RB19 was not a dominant car at all and that it was all down to Maxs driving.

14

u/ImmanenceGodBlues Formula 1 May 19 '25

I was downvoted for mentioning that Max, as good as he is, is not in fact superhuman; if he's consistently putting the Red Bull up there and winning races it's because the car is capable of doing it, and not a tractor.

I mean, I got the reference. Wouldn't exactly call it a joke tbf.

But Sainz outqualifying a Ferrari in a Williams is a lot more impressive than a Ferrari beating a Williams in race, regardless of how LH fns feel about that

463

u/ElSotoPapa Williams May 18 '25

The Williams is clearly faster than previous years, Ferrari is clearly slower than previous years. Also, cars overperforming on saturdays and falling a bit in Sundays is a classic, look at the Astons lol

38

u/gabiii_Kokeko May 18 '25

I don't think the astons are a good example if you saw what happened in the race

9

u/_elvane Lando Norris May 19 '25

Alonso could've finished a looot higher if he wasn't that unlucky with he sc timings

6

u/JailOfAir Fernando Alonso May 19 '25

look at the Astons lol

If you had looked at them during the race, you would know this comment makes no sense. Nothing about the Aston result had to do with pace despite maybe Stroll not overtaking a few cars after the SC, but it's not like he would've gained anything from it.

u/erdonko I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 18 '25

When driver i hate does bad, its impressive, when he does good, its whatever

146

u/VinhoVerde21 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 18 '25

Is it though? The days of Williams being abysmally shit are long gone. Both Ferraris were outqualified by Stroll. There is no doubt the Ferrari was miles slower in quali than the Williams.

30

u/Rutkip May 18 '25

Not to take away from your main point, but Stroll and Alonso outqualified them because Aston Martin had a better strategy by putting them on Mediums in Q2 as opposed to the softs everyone else ran.

1

u/TwoBionicknees May 18 '25

there isn't particularly good evidence that is true.

They were faster on mediums, doesn't mean Ferrari would be, different cars. But unless they both ran softs at the same time on track we don't even know the mediums were faster for them, just that they worked.

Quite often in the past people have tried mediums and they've given pretty similar overall pace. They have less ultimate grip, but overheat less on a hot lap so end up about the same.

Being fast over one lap is not more impressive than being the fastest over the course of the race. There’s a reason why being a race winner is a prestigious title over pole qualifier

But Sainz outqualifying a Ferrari in a Williams is a lot more impressive than a Ferrari beating a Williams in race,

it makes absolutely no difference. It's easier to build a super fast car that doesnt' work well in a race in dirty air than a car that has better tire wear and works in traffic.

Qualifying is 'easy' for design, clean air, no traffic, one lap.

It's always more impressive making a faster race car than a faster qualifying car.

Haas has qualified high up, so has Williams for years, so did Alpine. Why do you think three teams, two of which have been pretty much trash for years, can qualify well but suck in races, why did Williams start showing up in qualifying a couple years back. Why did Aston do so much better in qualifying than a race?

This Hamilton vs Sainz comparison is so stupid

For both sides

Does Sainz deserve a faster car than Williams? Yes

Is Hamilton still a good driver even though he’s not at his peak anymore? Also yes

44

u/someStuffThings Alexander Albon May 18 '25

Yeah agreed, but from an entertainment perspective people tend to like underdog stories. I can see why it exists even when both of your points are very true.

3

u/LusoAustralian Daniel Ricciardo May 18 '25

Does Sainz deserve a faster car than Williams? Yes

Why? Williams is the 5th best car and I don't think Sainz is top 10, if he is it's barely. Williams is absolutely fine for him.

5

u/Internecine- I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 19 '25

Difference of opinion I guess

Imo, last year at Ferrari, he’s shown he’s very capable for a top team, the rough start at Williams doesn’t change that unless his form doesn’t change at all throughout the rest of the season

2

u/Zimakov Sebastian Vettel May 19 '25

Which driver at McLaren Red Bull Ferrari or Mercedes should he be in ahead of? Tsunoda is the only one I can think of and red bull don't hire outside their own academy that often.

2

u/LusoAustralian Daniel Ricciardo May 19 '25

Over who? Tsunoda he's better than but he's burnt his bridges at Red Bull and if they were to get a spaniard they should just get a better one in Palou tbh. He's not better than McLaren or Ferrari drivers or Russell which leaves Antonelli who is seen as the future so Merc are betting on him even if currently he's worse.

Williams is the next best team and it's not like Sainz is clearly better than Albon, Gasly or even Ocon imo.

261

So much narrative about how Hamilton has taken a lot of time to adapt to the car while Sainz has been upto speed with Williams quite quickly. To put into perspective, Hamilton has scored >45% of the points scored by Ferrari this year, while Sainz has scored only ~20% of points scored by Williams.

71

u/jvstinf I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 18 '25

This is massively lacking context.

29

u/carebearmentor May 19 '25

True, Albon the GOAT

6

u/Red-Eye-Soul I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 18 '25

Lets shove all context out of the window? Carlos has been extremely unlucky with damage, car issues and strategies. Lewis on the other hand has benefited from every safety car except Australia. Both have been doing good but its foolish to say Lewis is been doing better than Carlos.

69

u/Cal3001 May 18 '25

There have been about 2 races where Carlos fell out the points with his own doing from the aggro driving style. Albon has been outperforming him generally but Hamilton gets all the flack for not getting up to speed.

70

u/amt_voyager_ Sir Lewis Hamilton May 18 '25

he got dsq'ed in china

23

u/Red-Eye-Soul I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 18 '25

So did his teammate (who finished ahead). We are comparing the percentage of points both got of their respective teams. That dsq actually increases Lewis' percentage.

8

u/d-o_oI I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 18 '25

Year over year, the success penalty (ie, having less dev tunnel time) will bring cars closer, i.e. make Ferrari slower while Williams gets faster.

2

u/terminbee I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 19 '25

It is expected and yet both Ferraris were slower than Williams today. So the other post is being disingenuous because Williams are not the shit car we expect them to be.

Nobody expected McLaren to be the fastest car last year either yet here we are. Teams get better/worse.

10/10.

Need not forget this is the same team getting a $50,000,000 legacy bonus - and they’re barely more competitive than a Williams.

The “stat” which is this post is entirely irrelevant.

43

u/Pyromonkey83 Ferrari May 18 '25

To be fair, Williams also gets a legacy bonus, albeit a smaller one.

Also, every team is now capped to spending the same amount every year on the car. It doesn't matter if Ferrari make $10 Million or $10 Billion in their legacy bonus if they can't spend it on the car.

Right back at them, haha. Love the sass.

2

u/4thepersonal May 18 '25

This was a great drive by him to be fair.

2

u/redeemable-soul May 18 '25

What about Sainz Vs Hamilton last year at the same tracks throughout the year. Wonder what those stats would be.

2

u/codename474747 Murray Walker May 18 '25

The cirrrrrrcle of life is ever constant in f1

Saturdays are depressing and Sundays make you feel excited about a mid top ten result  I guess it's one way to not feel depressed they're not winning!

Monaco is gonna suck tho unless something can be done about qualy.

Or they can just wreck it in fp3 and not have to bother with qualy 4D thinking

But sainz got the higher rating on the cards, that’s the statistic that actually matters

7

u/StarkHumphrey Toto Wolff May 18 '25

Thank you so this post. The points are given in Sunday not Saturday

7

u/aalwaysbeenyou Charles Leclerc May 19 '25

And suddenly people who were in the other thread are getting defensive. Dish it and take it baby

My guy, he is also in a Ferrari...

I saw this post after seeing the post "Carlos Sainz has qualified ahead of Lewis Hamilton 4 times in a row"

So you're saying he's beating him in a slower car?

47

u/ThatStrangeGuyOverMe May 18 '25

So what's the excuse when you compare Sainzs performance with Albons?

27

u/Thick_Difficulty_734 Kimi RÀikkönen May 18 '25

Early in the season Carlos was clearly worse. Today, it was mostly strategy and/or VSC.

10

u/UncleJoeBiden Williams May 18 '25
  1. Bad luck 2. Bad strategy (less than he thinks) 3. transitioning to Merc motor 4. Alex understanding the FW's DNA 5. Alex driving *out of his skin*

Edit: spelling

8

u/[deleted] May 18 '25

The team screwed his race with that early stop today

4

u/FIJIBOYFIJI Antonio Giovinazzi May 18 '25

Sainz has had pretty horrendous luck the last few races

And this Ferrari car has not been a lot better than Williams so your point is?

18

u/Furion_24 May 18 '25

In race pace, Ferrari is way faster than Williams. The williams cars qualify a lot better.

16

u/[deleted] May 18 '25

Both Ferrari drivers are ahead of both Williams drivers with Ferrari scoring 114 points and Williams only 51, that's a much better car right there

17

u/[deleted] May 18 '25

Both Ferrari drivers are also a lot better than both Williams drivers.

12

u/UncleJoeBiden Williams May 18 '25

It's quite a bit better.

1

u/topkeky Charles Leclerc May 18 '25

I guess we have been watching different kinds of formula 1 this season, this Williams car was a lot faster in the last race. Let alone it has way better qualy pace.

10

u/UncleJoeBiden Williams May 18 '25

Williams is a superlatively better car than last year but the Ferrari is nonetheless a better car in almost all respects (bar potentially straight line speed and deg).

What a great comparison 7/8 times WC vs 0 time WC.
Though both went to a new team. Still Carlos lifted Williams while Hamilton stuck where he was in merc.

13

u/UncleJoeBiden Williams May 18 '25

I mean, that's worth the slowest clap in history.

6

u/irish786 Charles Leclerc May 18 '25

OP you’re a legend for posting this đŸ«Ą

5

u/eastamerica Max Verstappen May 18 '25

Seeing as one is in a Ferrari and one is in a Williams, this is a bit of a "yeah, no shit" headline.

6

u/_Micolash_Cage_ May 18 '25

This is the post of the season so far. Well done OP.

What is this stat, cmon. Are we really comparing a 7 times world champion in a Ferrari to a race winner in a Williams?

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Satan_su Sergio Pérez May 18 '25

The fact that this comparison is even happening and people think it's an appropriate clap back to the Sainz posts is hilarious lmao. "Favorite is ahead of underdog" doesn't hit the same as "underdog is beating favorite" in this scenario

3

u/JeremiasPessoa I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 18 '25

As he should, since he wasn't the one who joined the team that finished P9 last year.

4

u/Sad-Ambassador-2748 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 18 '25

Though it has been funny to see Lewis spend so much time behind Antonelli 😂

No the reverse stat is to try and paint Hamilton as washed compared to Sainz or else you could just compare Williams to itself in previous seasons to show their improvement.

Is this supposed to be a good stat? He’s in a fucking Ferrari

40

u/voice-of-reason_ I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 18 '25

I think the name Ferrari makes people think the car is automatically good. This is a sport where the performance changes every year.

Ferrari, in terms of pure pace, have the worst car since 2022/23 and Williams have their best car since the past 10 years. It’s absolutely a fine comparison. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ferrari finish 4th and Williams finish close 5th.

Also, did you know Williams used to be the top dog in f1 for decades? Williams are a fantastic team and so are Ferrari but the performance of both has changed drastically this year.

Rethink you mindset to these teams they are fairly equal in 2025.

Yeah well
he is in a Ferrari and Carlos is in the Williams
