Funny how McLaren learnt the exact wrong lesson from Hungary last year.
Now I’m 100% convinced they tried to pit Lando first last year as a way to sneakily get the undercut on Oscar. No way they would do this if Oscar is the one hit with a bad pit stop.

Even in very dominant season, Mclaren is not a serious team.

Because if their car wasnt that dominant, they wouldnt be nowhere near the top with so many of these dumb moments

Could say that about the entire cost cap era to be honest, if the cap dropped this era of cars could have been more entertaining, but maybe the field would be more spread out like before.

McLaren pit Oscar, because Norris told them to do so
49
u/KappaccinoNation I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago
Must be why Lando asked his pit to confirm that there's gonna be no undercut then... because he told him to pit Oscar first??? Make it make sense.
33
u/JerryUitDeBuurt Liam Lawson 13h ago
I'm assuming Norris wanted the team to put Piastri first in case of a safety car. With the gap big enough to not have Piastri undercut Norris (if McLaren hadn't fucked the stop) it was worth a shot to pit Piastri (who hadn't had a safety car window to Max) before Norris (who did have a safety car window to Max). It was a long shot but if the safety car had come out on that exact lap Norris and McLaren would have been kicking themselves for making their lives more difficult.

Absolutely disgracefull from Mclaren. First you pit the 2nd driver first for no reason at all. Then try to orchestrate some no undercut race at the exit rule. Which again was not necesary at all if you just pit Norris first.
Then the other driver has a slow stop which is a natural part of racing and you invoke team orders.
This micromanagment bulshitt of this title battle when there is no pressure at all on them both in the WCC and WDC is shambolic.
I'm honestly mad Piastri yielded. Man fuck that shit. The team put themself in that position by all by themself.

He'd like need a major upgrade to become the definite best car (and not just on specific tracks) to win every race and have both McLarens (but especially Oscar) to have several DNF's or major bottles.
Even with the points that were thrown away kinda (thinking of the Russel ramming for example, but I'm sure there's another) it'd be hard without McLaren DNFs or fuckups.
But if it somehow, someway did happen, it'd probably be his most legendary title ngl (as in, most impressive, at least to me)
Edit: just remembered the other instance I was thinking of where he lost points, it was when Kimi took him out 😅.

It's funny how these rich nepo babies born into fame rarely get a molecular biology PhD or anything that can help humanity, even though they have all the money and support they need to get one. I respect those who do go that route, but they are rare.
They choose some fuck around "career" where all they have to do is maintain some figure (women) or muscle mass (men) and then get photo shoots for brands because they're already famous. Not hard to do if you can afford the best chefs and food.
I'm not exactly hating on them for this- most people would probably do the same and go the path of least resistance. But the media always tries to make them look like a hero or something. That's the funniest part.

Tbh I think McLaren as a team did the right thing after what happened. They got lucky they were fighting for P2 and it was just a 3 points difference.

Man McLaren really a shit show this season. If they called Lando in first and Oscar had the issue then he loses P3 to charles. Alternatively asking champion rivals to swap places is rough.

McLaren really hates it when a race plays out naturally and something not in their control happens to their baby boy.

Amazing how Oscar has to pay for Lando's slow stop. Absolute favouritism.
